Rite Aid is going to be offering some decent gift card deals starting on Sunday with discounts given in the form of rewards dollars that can be used at Rite Aid. While that obviously isn’t as good as cash back, I believe that Rite Aid rewards dollars can be used to purchase other gift cards (this was possible under the Plenti program), so the rewards may be pretty useful.
The Deal
- Get discounts on a number of third party gift cards at Rite Aid from 8/12/18 – 8/18/18 as follows:
- Buy $100 in Best Buy or Nike gift cards, earn $15 Bonus Cash
- Buy $50 in Forever 21 or Children’s Place gift cards, earn $8 Bonus Cash
- Buy $25 in Netflix or Hulu gift cards, earn $5 Bonus Cash
Key Terms
- Valid 8/12/18 to 8/18/18
- Limit of 2 offers per customer
Quick Thoughts
The Best Buy deal is probably the most compelling of the bunch here. It’s been a while since I last participated in a Rite Aid gift card deal, but in the past I was able to do 2 of each offer (two $100 gift cards, two $50 gift cards, etc). I’m not sure if those limits still apply or if they limit you to 2 total gift card offers per customer, but I’d suggest going slowly to be sure. Even if they allow two per dollar figure, you’ll be limited to buying $350 in total gift cards and earning $56 in rewards. Depending on your use for the gift cards, that might not be terrible – especially if you then use those rewards to buy a gift card that is closer in cash value to you (such as perhaps Amazon).
This one isn’t worth a special trip, but if you’re passing a Rite Aid or have one nearby, you might even be able to come out marginally ahead on the Best Buy gift cards depending on your resale situation and how strongly you value the Rite Aid rewards. Note that my Rite Aid will not allow you to use Rewards to purchase prescriptions (they claim it is due to state law, though the terminal still asks if you want to apply your rewards….). I see a report in the comments at Miles to Memories about some Rite Aids going to cash only on all gift cards. As of the middle of last month, that wasn’t the case at my local store (purchased a gift card as a gift….a novel idea indeed).
H/T: Miles to Memories
My Rite Aid has never allowed to use of reward dollars to buy other gift cards. Just a data point. I can buy gift cards with a credit card though.
