Amazon is offering 25% off most of its Amazon Warehouse Deals. Some products are ineligible, but the discount shows up on most items I’ve checked. This can make for a great deal if you don’t mind buying open box / lightly used items. I’ve made many purchases from Amazon Warehouse Deals over the years and I’ve mostly been very happy with them.

Quick Thoughts

For those unfamiliar with Amazon Warehouse Deals, it is Amazon’s arm for selling returned / open box / damaged packaging items. They grade products as “Fair”, “Good”, “Very Good”, or “Like New”. Here is more info about the grading system:

Used – Like New An item in perfect working condition. Original protective wrapping may be missing. The original packaging may have minor damage, or item may come repackaged. Package damage is clearly defined for each item. All accessories are present.

Used –Very Good The item has seen limited use and remains in good working condition. Item may show some limited signs of wear with small scratches or cosmetic blemishes. Item may arrive with damaged packaging or be repackaged and could be missing some accessories. Missing accessories are clearly defined for each item.

Used – Good The item shows wear, but remains in good working condition. It may be marked, have identifying markings on it, or cosmetic damage. Item may arrive with damaged packaging or be repackaged. Item may be missing some parts, accessories, instruction manuals, or assembly tools.

Used – Acceptable The item is fairly worn but continues to function properly. Significant signs of cosmetic damage can include scratches, dents, and worn corners. Item may arrive with damaged packaging or be repackaged. Item may be missing multiple parts, accessories, instruction manuals, or assembly tools.

There is some variance in the quality of grading, but I’ve typically been very happy with items purchased in “Like New” condition, several times receiving an item that only had damaged packaging or that appeared brand new apart from the package seal being broken (and many times reselling those items for a nice profit). I have also occasionally received items that seemed less “like new” than expected, though even then I’ve only had to return a couple of items out of many over the years.

The discount with this sale is automatic — you’ll see the savings in your cart on eligible items and you should see a message that an item is discount-eligible even before adding it to your cart.

To find Amazon Warehouse items, you can begin your search from this page. Alternatively, on any item page on Amazon, look for a section below the “Add to cart” area or item description that says “New & Used from ______”.

When you find an eligible Amazon Warehouse item, you should see the 25% savings advertised.

You won’t actually see the discount in your shopping cart but rather when you proceed to checkout.

The example item I’m using above is $500 new everywhere it is sold, so being able to get that item for $296.69 before tax represents a really nice savings. Obviously your savings will vary, but now and then you’ll find some Warehouse Deals items that are deeply discounted already and the additional 25% off only sweetens the deal.

While many people would understandably be hesitant to purchase electronics that aren’t new, there are countless items where you likely wouldn’t know the difference. I recently bought an outdoor inflatable projector screen (not available used right now) for movie nights that came in the box with everything and works just fine. A couple of years ago, we bought this very compact stroller (It’s currently not available used and is actually on sale for a fair price. It’s not made for off-roading and not the sturdiest construction, but super compact and as such an essential travel item for us.). That stroller was in the original packaging with the tags on it still (folding it takes some practice and I’m betting the original purchaser just gave up on it right away). We’ve bought everything from air conditioners to phones to chandeliers and over the years. I’d certainly not hesitate to order from Warehouse Deals again.

However, keep in mind that manufacture warranties and credit card consumer protections may not cover you for items sold as “used”, so if an extended warranty or something like that matters to you, this might not be the deal for you. On the other hand, you have to consider the price difference and ask yourself, “Would I pay $200 for an extended warranty?”. Answers will surely differ there. Amazon accepts returns on Warehouse Deals items for 30 days same as anything purchased directly from Amazon. Note that since the seller here is listed as “Warehouse Deals” and not “Amazon”, you won’t be able to stack those deals where you use 1 point and get money off.
