Earlier this week, American Express began to offer a 33% bonus when transferring Membership Rewards points to Hilton Honors. At the normal ratio, you can transfer 1,000 Membership Rewards points to 1,500 Hilton Honors points. Through 12/15/178, 1,000 American Express Membership Rewards converts to 2,010 Hilton Honors points. That’s probably not a good deal unless you really need to top off your account.
The Deal
- Get 33% more Hilton Honors points when you transfer from Amex Membership Rewards
Key Terms
- Valid through 12/15/17
- Must transfer in 1K point increments
Quick Thoughts
This isn’t a great deal. According to our Reasonable Redemption Values, Amex Membership Rewards points are worth around 1.82 cents each, yet Hilton Honors points are generally only worth about .4 cents each. That makes this a pretty bad trade in most scenarios. However, if you’re close to a strategic reward redemption and you need to top off your Hilton Honors account to get there, this might be a quick way to do it. Keep in mind that it’s also possible to pool Hilton points with up to 10 people, so if you have friends with Hilton points, it might make more sense to see if one of them would be willing to pool some points your way rather than giving up the greater value of flexibility of Membership Rewards points. We have added this one to our list of current current point transfer bonuses.
