There are new offers out on both the Citi AAdvantage Platinum Select World Elite Mastercard and the Citibusiness AAdvantage Platinum Select World Mastercard that each offer 60,000 American Airlines AAdvantage miles for $3,000 spend in the first 3 months. Both of these offers can be found on our Best Offers page.
Citi AAdvantage Platinum Select World Elite Mastercard
The Offer
- 60,000 AAdvantage miles for spending $3,000 within the first 3 months of account opening
Card Benefits
- 2x on American Airlines purchases
- 1x everywhere else
- Preferred boarding on domestic flights
- First checked bag free for you and up to four traveling companions on the same reservation
- No foreign transactions fees
- 10% of your redeemed miles rebated every year up to a max of 10,000 miles per year
- $95 annual fee is waived the first year
Quick thoughts
This offer beats the previous best offer of 50,000 miles and is a strong value considering the waived annual fee in year one. If you do not hold one of the Barclaycard Aviator cards (which also offer the annual 10% rebate on redeemed miles) and you redeem at least 100,000 miles per year, the annual mileage rebate could easily offset the fee. Note that the mileage rebates do not stack — you will receive a maximum of 10,000 miles per year rebated even if you hold both an Aviator and Citi AAdvantage Platinum Select card. While this card is not the most rewarding for everyday spend, the sign up bonus and annual mileage rebate make it worthy of consideration.
Citibusiness AAdvantage Platinum Select World Mastercard
The Offer
- 60,000 AAdvantage miles for spending $3,000 within the first 3 months of account opening
Card Details
- 2x on American Airlines purchases
- 2x at telecommunications merchants, car rental merchants, and gas stations
- 1x everywhere else
- Preferred boarding on domestic flights
- First checked bag free for you and up to four traveling companions on the same reservation
- No foreign transactions fees
- $95 annual fee is waived the first year
Quick Thoughts
While this card does not come with the 10% annual mileage rebate, a distinct advantage is that this card does not count against Chase 5/24 status as it is a business card that typically does not appear on your personal credit report. The bonus categories are nice if you have no other cards with bonuses at those types of merchants, though there are other cards with greater return on those purchases.
Final word
Both of these offers are a great way to rack up some American AAdvantage miles. While availability on AA flights can be difficult to find, there are many great partners both within and in addition to Oneworld airlines that make AAdvantage miles a valuable currency. For example, earlier today, I wrote about taking advantage of paid premium fares out of cities like Cairo. Those paid fares might also combine well with award tickets. For example, Cairo to Asia in first class on Etihad costs just 50K AAdvantage miles plus taxes. I flew Cairo to Abu Dhabi to Tokyo in Etihad first class and received 10% of the miles back thanks to holding the Citi AAdvantage Platinum Select at the time and definitely enjoyed that use of my AA miles. You can find links to these offers on our Best Offers page.

[…] With those changes looming, you might find yourself wondering what could be the next best credit card perks that will be taken away, and Greg’s predictions are already coming true. But it’s not all doom and gloom! Despite momentary reports of a negative change in MQM earning on the Delta credit cards, Greg was able to debunk the myth of a change. Whew – crisis averted :-). Furthermore, there are still some great credit card perks that aren’t going away any time soon – like this one. And it’s gotten even cheaper. Not enough proof that great sign up bonuses aren’t dead? The rumor of their demise has been greatly exaggerated. […]
I never understood the hate AA redemptions get…it is so easy for me to book econ seats NY to Europe multiple times a year or to/from Central America.
The real worth though is in the churnability of offers without 24 month language which these don’t seem to have and should have been pointed out right at the top.
For those who just recently were issued this card at thr 50k mile level, it appears by contacting customer service, you can be referred to thr “Marketing” dept. and transitioned into this new deal withon 5 to 7 business days. I don’t suspect this will last long.
You really need to point out the there is 24 month restriction on this card. Not doing so is either a big oversight or downright dishonest.
The points are not that great because AA redemption rates are usually really high. Other airlines offer far better domestic rewards rates.
just double check, if you have personal card within last 24 months, you will not be eligible for the business card offer, right?
No, the business card is separate from the personal card so you should be fine.
