American Express Platinum Cards® and Business American Express Platinum Cards® come with a large suite of benefits, from hotel status to airport lounge access to entertainment subscription credits to savings at Saks and Dell to a Walmart+ membership and more.
All those benefits are pretty well known, but there’s also a whole host of other indirect benefits you can get from being a Platinum or Business Platinum cardholder. With free burgers, Champions League soccer streaming, status with other hotel and car rental programs and more available, here’s what else you can get from being a cardholder.

1) Free burgers
The first few of these indirect benefits come courtesy of the complimentary Walmart+ subscription that’s a benefit on personal Platinum cards only (although it is also available on American Express® Business Gold Cards). As a quick reminder, Walmart+ costs $12.95 per month and if you pay for it with a Platinum card, you’ll get a statement credit for $12.95 a few days after each month’s subscription is charged to your card. Important to note: you have to enroll in this benefit first and it’s only valid on a monthly subscription – not an annual one.
One of the lesser-known benefits of Walmart+ is its own relatively new partnership with Burger King. As part of this partnership you can save 25% on a Burger King digital order every day, as well as getting a free Whopper with any purchase once every three months. All you have to do is link your Walmart+ account with your Burger King Crowns account and you’re good to go.

2) Champions League soccer (& more)
As a Liverpool fan, this is one of my favorite indirect benefits. I already get to watch Premier League games thanks to the Digital Entertainment Credit on personal Amex Platinum cards because Peacock TV is an eligible subscription service. Champions League games are broadcast in the US by Paramount+ which you can get a free subscription for via Walmart+. That means this season I’ve gotten to watch Liverpool do better against other European teams than they have in the Premier League. All that, plus the strangely amusing studio show with Kate Scott, Jamie Carragher, Micah Richards and Thierry Henry which is often even more entertaining than the action on the pitch.

This obviously means that you have access to not only Champions League soccer, but all Paramount+ content which includes their original series like 1923, as well as other sports like Europa League soccer (the lesser version of the Champions League).
If you’d like to add Showtime to your subscription, some commenters below shared that although you can’t adjust your plan within your Paramount+ account, you can add Showtime on your Walmart+ account.
3) Peacock Premium
Instead of Paramount+, Walmart+ lets you pick Peacock Premium as an alternative complimentary streaming service. You can change your selection once every 90 days if you like.

4) Gas savings
Another Walmart+-related benefit is 10c off per gallon of gas. That’s valid not only at Walmart and Murphy gas stations that you’ll find at Walmart stores, but at Exxon and Mobil gas stations around the country too. You’ll also be able to access member pricing at Sam’s Club gas stations even if you don’t have a Sam’s Club membership.
To access these savings, you’ll need the Walmart app on your phone. On there, tap the Services tab at the bottom of the app, then tap the ‘Member prices on fuel’ section that should be near the top of that screen.

That will open functionality to scan a QR code at the pump in order to fill your tank. You can pay with a credit card or a Walmart gift card stored in the app. At Murphy gas stations, that screen will provide a discount ID code to give at the pump or to a cashier in order to obtain the 10c per gallon savings.
5) Puncture repair
Another little-known Walmart+ benefit is free puncture repair for tires installed on passenger cars, light trucks, minivans, small recreational vehicles (RVs), and crossovers. If you take it to an auto care center, they’ll repair it (if it can be repaired) for free, rather than charging $15.
6) Best Western status
Best Western has an ongoing status match opportunity (our affiliate link). If you take advantage of this option, you’ll receive status that’s valid through the end of the year after the one in which you matched. That means that if you match your status in 2026, you’ll keep it through December 31, 2027.
Considering we sometimes see extremely high targeted cashback offers for Best Western stays from the Capital One Shopping portal, along with Best Western Amex Offers or Chase Offers and stackable promotions giving Best Western bonus cards, bonus points, etc., having status to go along with that could come in handy. Just go into it aware that even with that top-tier Diamond Select status, the official benefits you’ll receive are minimal.

So how is this an indirect benefit of Amex Platinum cards? Both personal and Business Platinum cards offer status with two hotel programs: Gold status with Hilton Honors and Gold status with Marriott Bonvoy. You have to enroll in those benefits and link your Hilton and/or Marriott accounts initially, but then you’re good to go. If you renew your Amex Platinum or Business Platinum card each year, you’ll maintain your status in those loyalty programs without any further action needed.
Reports on StatusMatcher.com suggest that Best Western is willing to give its top-tier Diamond Select status to people with Hilton Gold or Marriott Gold status. That’s surprising considering neither of those are top-tier status levels, particularly not Marriott Gold which has extremely limited benefits. I’d be most inclined to try matching from Hilton Gold status if that’s your highest hotel status level though, just in case their policy changes on Marriott Gold status.
7) Airport duty free & restaurant savings/rewards

Club Avolta is the loyalty program of 5,000+ airport stores and restaurants worldwide. Membership gives you 5% discounts at participating retailers, but if you have Platinum status in its loyalty program you’ll save 10% in stores (but not restaurants).
You can get Platinum status courtesy of another status match. Once again, you can match from Hilton Gold or Marriott Gold status, both of which are benefits of both personal and Business Platinum cards.
8) Sixt Platinum status
Platinum cardholders can get complimentary status with several car rental programs:
- Avis Preferred Plus
- Hertz President’s Circle
- National Executive
It’s also possible to get Platinum status with Sixt, but somewhat surprisingly it’s not available via a status match from one of those car rental programs. Instead, you can match from airline and hotel programs.
At the time of publishing this post, you can get Sixt Platinum status by matching from the following hotel programs which are either directly available as a benefit on Platinum cards or indirectly:
- Marriott Bonvoy – Gold (link here)
- Leading Hotels of the World – Sterling (link here)
- Best Western Rewards – Diamond (via status match) (link here)
I took advantage of this status match a couple of years ago. We rented from Sixt while in Hawaii in December 2024 and got upgraded to a convertible for the week at no extra cost. Driving around Kauai with the top down was pretty sweet, especially considering we’d driven around the other 49 states over the previous 7 years in a 2004 Toyota Corolla 😉

9) Cashback, gift cards & more
This final entry is like an indirect direct benefit. For several direct Amex Platinum benefits, you can subscribe after clicking through from a shopping portal or something similar in order to earn rewards.
For example, there are frequently promotions offering some kind of bonus when joining CLEAR+ such as a $75 Uber gift card. Even if you have no interest in the benefit itself, subscribing can be worth it for that reward.

Similarly, you can click through from a shopping portal to subscribe to Peacock TV, Disney+, The Wall Street Journal, etc. if you have a personal Amex Platinum card that comes with an up to $25 per month Digital Entertainment Credit. Even if you have no interest in those streaming services, you can pick up some cashback or rewards for subscribing nonetheless.
Question
Are there any other indirect benefits of being an Amex Platinum cardholder where you can parlay official benefits to other benefits, rewards, status, etc.? Let us know in the comments below.

Is brand association a consideration when corporations decide to collaborate on marketing products? Apparently not for American Express! Their intern’s Venn Diagram must have been super convincing of the intersection between “Free BK Whoppers” and their average Platinum card holder’s culinary preferences.
Really great post Stephen. I’ve already jumped on Sixt. Too bad Radisson is dead. Thanks.
My days of frequent fast food visits is gone but spending time with a couple of grandnieces (4/8) has led to multiple Burger King visits since they have an indoor playground (critical in the Arizona summer heat) so I’ve used the 25% off frequently.
Is there a similar article about the CSR by any chance?
[…] This isn’t new, but I just learned of this today from FM. […]
Clicked on the link hoping there was a way to get a deal on Champions League tickets with AMEX Plat.
@stephen pepper I believe that the Radisson-Club Avolta link is dead. There was an update on 09/22/25 but later on 09/27/25 loyalty lobby posted that it’s indefinitely suspended. Link: https://loyaltylobby.com/2025/09/27/update-easy-radisson-rewards-status-match-through-club-avolta-in-2025-suspended/
Ah, thank you. I wasn’t seeing the offer anymore, but I figured that might’ve been because I’d already taken advantage of the offer. I’ll get that part removed.
Yeah, I still tried the status match anyway to see if it was back yet. Still got this response:
Thank you for contacting Club Avolta.
If your query relates to matching your Club Avolta status into Radisson Rewards, please note this benefit is temporarily suspended and we are unable to process such requests. We are working hard to reinstate the benefit as soon as possible and apologise for any inconvenience.
sorry to hear you’re a Liverpool fan, @Stephen Pepper
and i had thought we could be friends ;-(
Laughs in Tottenham…
Poor Kinsky
Paramount Plus offers a *lifetime* 50% discount to military members and veterans. That subscription and Disney Plus combined total just a bit over the $25 per month digital entertainment credit. Then, via Walmart+, pick Peacock.
Which is $59 for the year less the $25 Digital credit through ID dot Me – sweet deal .
Peaccok had a similar deal thru 12.31.2025 for for the ad-free version – wish I had jumped on it at the time but had some Amex offers that I used.
Looks like you can get SIXT Platinum status through Hertz President’s circle now.
No Amex Platinum for me, but used my Venture X to get Sixt Platinum for my trip to Italy, fingers crossed for an upgrade!
Are any of the status matches renewable? Usually status matches are one and done, right?
My health insurance reimburses gym fees up to a certain amount. Equinox+ counts: I submitted a screenshot of my membership and heavily redacted statement just showing the purchase line for Equinox+.
Along those same lines, for people whose insurance doesn’t pay for this. You can use your HSA to pay for a gym membership if a doctor provides a Letter of Medical Necessity (LMN) stating the membership is required to treat a specific, diagnosed medical condition like obesity, diabetes, or heart disease. So you could pay with your Platinum, get the credit and then request reimbursement from your HSA, but a little on the gray side.
My Sixt status matched to platinum instantly with a screen shot of Hertz Presidents circle card. The hotel status match only got me to express. So folks, use the car rental status match and that should work. Thank you guys at frequent miler for pointing these little know perks out. Fantastic tip!
So, I actually dismissed Walmart+ when it was added as a benefit since I have Amazon prime. Fast forward a few years later and I’ve now canceled my Amazon prime lol.
Funny how that worked out.
“click through from a shopping portal to subscribe to Peacock TV, Disney+, The Wall Street Journal, etc. to pick up some cashback or rewards for subscribing nonetheless.”
Can this only be done once (as the first time) or if there is any way to get the cashback every month?
You earn it when subscribing – you don’t earn shopping portal rewards on each subsequent monthly payment
