Amex has been advertising “Member Week” specials to come this week, which were to be kicked off by a transfer bonus to Marriott Bonvoy. That transfer bonus kicked off today, and it is very underwhelming. At just a 25% transfer bonus when you transfer Membership Rewards points through 3/21/25, it isn’t worth transferring to Marriott Bonvoy unless it is to top off a little bit for a valuable award.

Quick Thoughts
Our Reasonable Redemption Value for Marriott Bonvoy points is 0.76c per point. That means that with a 25% transfer bonus, you’re trading each Membership Rewards point for less than 1 cent worth of Marriott points. That’s a bad deal, particularly when you consider the fact that Marriott is currently selling points for as low as 0.86c per point. Our Reasonable Redemption Value for Amex Membership Rewards points is 1.55c per point — you can generally expect much better value by strategically using your Amex points for flight awards.
This deal might make sense if you just need a few more points for a valuable award, but otherwise it is a miss. It is surprising that this offer is so low for “Member Week”, especially when you consider the fact that Amex offered a 35% transfer bonus just a few months ago.

While this is an Amex promotion, the lower bonus rate is just another headline in Marriott’s continuing story. Tier benefits have become unrealizable all too often. And, recent changes and leaked potential changes suggest the economic value of points are even evaporating. What’s left?
For me the Dell offer is not on my Platinum cards… of course. That’s purposeful. Thanks, Amex. No thanks on these offers. Most are pretty lame…
“Underwhelming” was the very word I thought about after reviewing all the offers for Members Week. So much hype regarding the offers— Even the Hilton offer was restricted to certain hotel brands. I think Amex needs to do a lot better. Very disappointing.
