IHG Business Premier card: Best-ever 200K Welcome Offer is Back

22

Today, Chase increased the welcome offer on the IHG Premier Business card to a whopping 200,000 IHG points. We’ve been at 140K on this card for quite some time, a good haul in its own right. Now, the intro offer is split into two tiers: you earn the same 140K after spending $4K within the first 3 months, then add on an additional 60K points by completing a total of $9K spend within the first 6 months.

This new offer matches the best that we’ve ever seen on the IHG Business card and puts it squarely within the top ten current business card offers on our Best Offers Page.

Quick Thoughts

Our Reasonable Redemption Value for IHG points is .62 cents each, which would make this welcome offer worth ~$1000, one of the most valuable for a Chase business cards on our Best Offers Page.

While that’s the value you can expect when not cherry-picking awards, I find that I’m often able to get much higher value by doing exactly that, and can usually get around .8cpp-1.0cpp. Regardless of how selective you are, this is a terrific welcome offer and absolutely worth going for if the IHG program suits your needs.

In addition to the welcome offer, the Premier Business card also comes with an annual free night certificate that’s awarded every card anniversary. IHG increased the utility of these certificates for Premier cardholders as part of an overhaul of their rewards program. Now, you can “top off” the certificates by adding an unlimited number of points as necessary in order to book a standard room reward at a property with a higher point redemption level.

I did this in Seville, Spain, where I redeemed 40K certificates for a property that was 70K points/night by adding an additional 30K pts/night from my account. This is a great feature and makes it much easier to max out the value of these certificates. To me, the cert is easily worth the $99 annual fee, making this card a keeper even after the the first year anniversary.

Do we know how long this offer lasts?

I have a IHG Premier card where the annual fee hits May 1. I opened the card in April 2018 right before the certificate devaluation. I would like to get the free nights to align as close as possible.

That being said, I’m above 5/24 so prob won’t be eligible.

JayP

Applying on the same day as your current cert expiration is the best possible way of achieving this, correct?
I’m trying to do the same thing

NateNate

I’m not sure. I noticed my other IHG award posted on the first of the month, as did the annual fee on both of my cards. But I definitely did not open my account on the first of the month, but in the month prior (i.e. April application –> May 1 AF; Dec application –> Jan 1 AF).

My hypothesis is that the AF annually hits on first day of the month following the month you opened your account.

For me that means to apply in April.

JayP

P2 and I only have the old select card but in both cases our annual free nights expire in early April and our AF is billed May 1st.

Can anyone confirm that the new cards FNC expiration is on the 1st of the month? I thought it was on account anniversary date.

JayP

Edit: I just realized you said that’s when the certificates posted to your account. I’m more concerned with aligning the expiration dates.

NateNate

Oh, thats a good point! Yes, I was looking at the AF posting, but its really the cert expiry date that is important. And the one IHG cert in my account has a Dec expiration date so it does align with my application date.

So I think the answer is that when my next certificate posts (should be in early April), that is when I should apply for the Biz card.

Thanks!

Larry

I understand that it is subject to 5/24 for approval but I would like to know if it will take up a 5/24 slot upon approval which would affect subsequent personal Chase card applications?

Christian

No. Chase business cards do not take a 5/24 slot. That’s why you always start with their business cards.

notapostrophe

Ugh, they always do multiple really good offers at the same time and then whichever I pick, the other isn’t available 90 days later.

Anybody have a recent approval datapoint? With Chase tightening up business card approvals, especially on inks, I’m wondering if they are approving co-branded business cards with less scrutiny on which inks I still have open and in use. If you’ve been approved or denied using this increased IHG offer, please share how many open Chase Inks or Chase co-branded business cards you currently have. Couldn’t find any recent datapoints in the reddit topic.

Dan

I was recently denied for this card, I have three Inks and the IHG personal card. Denied due to too much credit extended to me, or so they say.

notapostrophe

They’ve done that for years. Just need to reduce your credit limits to under a certain percentage of your total income to avoid it. The business card scrutiny is new and probably a reaction to people opening 10+ Inks.

Dan

So is that a matter of calling up Chase and asking them to lower the credit limits of both my personal and business cards?

Enigma

Tell them you are not looking for extra credit limit and they can transfer limit for an existing card.

Exact same situation, 3 biz ink + ihg personal, denied for too much credit extended. After getting the denial mail, I called ~3 weeks ago to inquire about the card application, asked and got transferred to reconsideration. Agent asked questions about the business and why I needed so much credit (I didn’t). I asked to transfer some credit from one of the biz ink cards, and was approved on the phone. Got the IHG biz card about a week ago.

Can you get h this card if you have the old $49 Select Card?

Dave Hanson

Yes. Current limit is 1 business and 1 personal.

What’s more, it complements the $49 select card perfectly, because the 4th night free and the 10% points rebate benefits stack. 🙂

Is there a post that explains this dual card combo strategy? If not, hope you can write one, would be super useful. Thanks in advance,

Derek

Yes, it does complement, but I do find the anniversary free night certificate that comes with the $49 select card so limited since you can’t top it off. I was even considering canceling the card because I’m finding it harder to find places that 40k and below that I actually want to stay at.

Dave Hanson

Note that if you value IHG points a .5 cents each–which is fairly conservative–then you’ll fully recoup your $49 fee if you redeem just 98,000 points in a calendar year, before you even consider the 40k capped certificate.
