Quick Thoughts

There are still some appealing uses of Wyndham points, but in most cases, it won’t be a worthy destination for your Ultimate Rewards.

Our Reasonable Redemption Value for Wyndham points is just 0.7c per point. Even with a 30% transfer bonus, an average Wyndham redemption would still yield less than one-cent-per-point value for your Chase points…and you can do far better than that.

We certainly wouldn’t recommend transferring speculatively, but if you have a specific vacation rental in mind or perhaps an all-inclusive in the Caribbean during a busy week, it could make sense. Outside of that, it’s best to wait for better options.

Best Uses for Wyndham Rewards points

  • Wyndham Rewards has three redemption tiers: 7,500, 15,000, and 30,000. Since these are fixed, they can be of great value when room prices are extremely high (e.g., during special events or holidays).
  • The same tiers also apply to Wyndham Vacation Club time share properties, so one-bedroom condos can be had for as low as 7,500 points per night.
  • Wyndham has a partnership with DeCameron All-Inclusive Hotels & Resorts, with properties costing 15,000 or 30,000 points per night for two adults.
  • Terrific vacation rental properties can be had in the UK through Wyndham's partnership with cottages.com. See this post for more details.

Things to Know

  • When you book nights with points, you will not earn points for the stay.
  • Most hotel taxes are not charged on award stays, so this can make the value of buying points even better.
  • Resort fees are waived on award stays. This alone can make it worthwhile to use points instead of cash for your bookings.
  • Wyndham points expire after 18 months of inactivity and 4 years after acquisition. The former is easy to avoid, since any account activity resets the clock, but the four-year timer is more problematic. Luckily, there is a workaround: see "How to prevent Wyndham points from expiring" for details.
