$75 back on $325 or more at Hertz with Citi Merchant Offer (stack with portals?)

2

There’s a new Citi Merchant offer out that’s good for $75 back when you spend $325 or more with Hertz rental cars. That could certainly be a solid deal on its own, but it gets even better if you are able to stack it with a good shopping portal offer. That said, the terms of the deal specifically state that it cannot be stacked with other offers, so I don’t know if paying with a Citi card will somehow invalidate your shopping portal cash back. Your mileage may vary.

The Deal

  • Earn $75 back on a purchase of $325 or more with Hertz at participating Hertz corporate-owned locations in the US with a new Citi merchant offer. Note that you will need to enroll in the offer on an eligible card and make an eligible purchase to earn the $75 back.

Key Terms

  • Offer valid only for vehicle rentals made directly with participating Hertz Corporate owned locations in the US. Visit hertz.com/rentacar/location for information on Corporate owned locations (identified by Ownership Type: Corporate in the information hyperlink).
  • Payments for rentals at independently licensed locations or booked through travel agents or affiliate booking sites, e-Toll charges, Hertz Car Sales, and Rent2Buy do not qualify. May be redeemed 1 time(s) by the offer end date.
  • Visit hertz.com/ar/en/rental-qualifications-and-requirements for information on rental eligibility requirements. Rentals can be made through the Hertz US website hertz.com, the Hertz mobile app, Hertz US phone reservations, or in-person at participating Hertz Corporate owned locations in the US.
  • Must pick up and return rental to Hertz Corporate owned locations only.
  • Eligible rentals must be paid by 6/30/26 in order to qualify.
  • Offer valid only on purchases made in US dollars.
  • Offer is nontransferable and the enrolled card must be active and in good-standing in order to be eligible for an award.
  • Offers cannot be combined or stacked with other offers.
  • If a merchant processes your online order in separate transactions, you may only earn an award on the first processed transaction if it meets all other offer criteria.
  • Other exclusions and restrictions may apply. We may determine that certain offers are ineligible for an award.
  • We may, in our sole discretion, suspend or deny your eligibility for all or part of the merchant offers program at any time without advanced notice to you.
  • All offers are exclusively eligible when United States Dollars (USD) are used as the currency of transaction for qualifying redemptions. Offers redeemed using any other currency will not be valid.

Quick Thoughts

Hertz has had a rough few years in terms of public image. I know many readers have sworn them off entirely due to the fiasco over customers having been arrested because Hertz failed to properly record the return of their rental cars. There’s also been the installation of the AI damage scanners in many airports in the United States, which has not helped to enhance the Hertz reputation.

However, I’ve personally rented from Hertz plenty of times over the last year, and my experiences have been fine. I’m never notably impressed by their customer service, but sometimes the price is right.

Just this morning, I received a Capital One Shopping targeted email that included an offer for 30% back at Hertz. I believe that the terms of the Capital One Shopping offer now require prepayment of the rental in order to trigger the offer. I’m not positive whether this Citi offer will be triggered with a prepaid rental, but I have a couple of rental car needs during the validity window of this offer, so I may look at trying to stack. As noted at the top, the terms of this offer actually explicitly say that it cannot be stacked with other offers. I have a hard time believing that it couldn’t be stacked with a shopping portal return, but I guess we’ll see what happens in practice.

Do keep in mind that it is only valid at corporate-owned locations in the United States. I actually have a couple of overseas Hertz rentals lined up later this summer, but this offer wouldn’t work for those rentals as per the terms.
