Application Tips

Chase Application Tips

  • Shut-Down Caution: Signing up for new Chase cards can lead to Chase reviewing your accounts. This may lead to Chase shutting down all of your accounts if you appear to be a credit risk. See this post for details and recommendations: Why Chase shutdowns have increased and how to avoid them.
  • 5/24 Rule: With most Chase cards, you won't get approved if your credit report shows 5 or more cards opened in the past 24 months. Details here.
  • 24/48 Month Rule: With most Chase cards, you can get the same card and bonus again 24 months after having received the bonus as long as you no longer have the card open. With Sapphire cards, you must wait 48 months. No wait is required for Chase Ink cards.
  • 30 Day Rule: It is tough to get approved for more than 2 Chase cards within 30 days
  • Get Same Card Again: You can get the same exact card and again if you first cancel the older card and follow the 24/48 month rule. Ink cards are OK to get again without cancelling previous card if you apply with a new business.
  • Better Offers: You may be able to get a better offer than the best available public offer. Details here.
  • Hard inquiries combine into 1 when approved same day (not always true when mixing business and personal)

Do we know if the $50 credit will register if you eat at the hotel restaurant or does it need to be attached to a room?

I was denied based on too many accounts (assuming 5/24), but I only have 4 personal in that time frame. I asked the representative, and she said it includes business cards, which could be bad news going forward with Chase…

Nick Reyes

That rep was wrong. The only issuer I can think of whose business cards report to a personal bureau is Capital One. So if the only thing putting you over 4/24 is business cards from banks other than Capital One, I’d try calling again.

Is it possible that you were added as an AU on someone’s account? Those do typically count toward 5/24 in the computer, but if you explain to the rep that it’s just an additional cardholder account and that you aren’t financially responsible for the card, they will usually not count them.

Hmm, I do have a capital one business card, which would put me at 5, apparently. Thanks for the insight. Guess i’m waiting for October to get any other cards with Chase = )

Nick, Discover Business cards also report to personal credit.

I was wondering when spending on the Hyatt Business card take effect for the 5 stay credits for each $10,000 spend. For example, I am now a globalist for 2023 so I don’t need these this month.

Let’s say my credit card statement date is December 15th and I have all kinds of spending I could do this month or next. I asked Hyatt what the rules are and their reply was:

“We understand you are inquiring for additional information
on the Qualifying Night Credits (QNC) for your accounts,
we can help.

The benefit goes by the posting date. Not the cycle
dates or transaction dates. You would have to refer to the
date in which the purchase is posted to your account. ”

This sounds like I should wait until January for any spending on this card rather than spend after the 15th and expect the “nights” to apply on January 15 2023 – which is different from the Hyatt personal card.

Am I correct?

The points will post on Jan 15th, but that has nothing to do with the nights needed for the following year’s Globalist (2024).

Greg The Frequent Miler

Yep that’s correct. Wait until Jan to do the spend.

Thanks, Greg. Good to confirm with you, as always.

The most amazing timing. Just under 5/24 by days and out comes this Hyatt Business card with extra tier points for stays this year! Applied and immediate approval.

“You, as the authorizing officer, will receive 2 World of Hyatt Tier-Qualifying Night credits for each qualifying night you stay from August 23, 2022 until December 31, 2022.”

So, question is: Do I get these extra Night credits for just having the card or do I need to make the reservation with the card as backup even if no charges? Generally there are no charges as I am a Globalist and so breakfast is almost always free and I don’t normally spend anything else at the hotel (though now I will spend at least $100 (2 x $50) to get the credit.

I am surprised you didn’t have this on your site today – saw it on OMAT. I was not worried about reaching Globalist again this year as I am close – but now I am eyeing the extra suite upgrades at 70, 80 … nights.
