Put this in the column of “won’t last long”, but American Airlines has increased award availability through next Spring on routes between the U.S. and Paris and the U.S. and Santiago, Chile. While this may be a coincidence, I wouldn’t be surprised to see other routes with increased availability as well.
As many of you know, premium cabin award availability on American has really dried up over the past couple of years. Since this space is disappearing quickly, I won’t keep you. I was able to find plenty of space on DFW-SCL when I searched and also on JFK-CDG.

Wanting to go DFW-FCO next May. All AA will give you for AAwards to anywhere in Europe from anywhere in USA is on BA to LHR with ripoff surcharges. No awards on AA, AB, IB, Finnair, Etihad. So much for “wide open”.
[…] a half hour later, my phone chirped. Shawn had published a Quick Deal: “Wide Open AA Premium Cabin Award Availability to South America & Europe.” Saver level first class award flights between the US and Santiago Chile were wide open for […]
If you go, be sure to stay at the Grand Hyatt in Santiago. Absolutely the best Hyatt club floor of ANY Hyatt I have stayed at! They have a full breakfast buffet in the AM, and a cocktail hour with an incredible selection of wine and liquor, and a wide sample of the cuisine of the restaurants in the hotel. You can eat all of your meals there and never buy one. Just 8000 points per night. A real bargain!
It is about 1 mile from the subway. Easy walk from the hotel. The subway takes you all over Santiago. Be sure to get to Easter Island while you are on this trip. Enchanting place you don’t want to miss.
seeing some serious fuel surcharges on most of these (1k apiece)…am I missing something?
At least that’s what I saw for the europe flights. SCL was normal (cheap!) YQ. Thanks guys, for the heads up!
The key is to find flights on AA metal, not BA. Try selecting nonstop only from AA hub cities like PHL. There are no surcharges on those flights.
Awesome. I just booked two trips to Santiago! Thanks Shawn
