Amex Business Platinum Card® welcome offer is now “as high as” 300K bonus points

16

In recent weeks/months, there have been sporadic appearances of an “as high as” 300K bonus point welcome offer for the Business Platinum Card® from American Express. That’s shown up sometimes on referral links, in mailers, and even on Google when searching for things completely unrelated to credit cards.

The good thing is that you no longer have to cross your fingers and hope that this offer will show up: it’s now the official, potential, highest-ever offer.

Quick Thoughts

A welcome offer of up to 300,000 bonus Membership Rewards is the highest publicly available we’ve ever seen on the Business Platinum Card®; so it’s a superb bonus.

The catch is that there’s no guarantee you’ll be offered 300,000 points as your welcome offer, given the ‘as high as’ wording. For example, I mentioned above that this offer has recently appeared on Google. I know that because I came across it in the wild earlier this month and decided to apply, even though I already have a few Business Platinum cards.\

Despite the offer having lifetime language, I was approved, but for a welcome bonus of 200,000 points rather than 300,000. That was a little disappointing, but it was an approval, and 200,000 points was the highest publicly available offer at the time anyway, so I didn’t feel too hard done by.

There’s no guarantee that the consolation prize for not being offered 300,000 points is 200,000 points; it could be even lower, or it might be in the 200,000-300,000 range.

Our first-year estimated value for someone offered 300,000 bonus points is more than $4,000, taking into account the value of the points and the card’s other benefits, and after accounting for the $895 annual fee. That’s an incredible amount for one credit card bonus, but it’s worth calculating yourself based on your valuations of the points and benefits.

That said, no matter how you slice and dice it, earning as many as 300,000 points is an incredible bonus. I remember something like 10 years ago when many of us salivated over the elusive 100,000 welcome offer on the consumer American Express Platinum Card®; now, 300,000 points is publicly available.

Referrals don’t appear to be displaying this new offer yet, at least not on a consistent basis. I imagine that will change in the coming days, so if it’s not urgent that you get this card immediately and your partner has another Amex card that they can refer you from, it might be worth waiting in order for them to pick up the bonus points for referring you (or vice versa).

I got the 300k referral offer today- I don’t see any other reports of that here yet- happy to share if it’s ok with the FM team.

I won’t share without their green light, so please don’t DM me

Sorry

Max

I finally hit pop up jail with this one 🙁

I clicked and so far the most I have seen is 150K. Ill pass on that. For a business gold I would go for 150K. I would go for 300K as I could use some AMEX these days.

Emma

Kind of a weird take that you don’t have to cross your fingers and hope that the offer will show up – it’s baked in now

Bunny

Only 20K spend in 90 days, sorry no thank you. I’m not Greg.

Have a somehat-related question regardinf refer-a-friend. When I try and initiate a referral, both on Chrome regular and incognito, I go through all the sign in screens and 2FE, and always end up with a blank screen that shows no referral options. Does anyone know why? Am I blacklisted from referrals?

Lisa

Please remember to use a friend or family member referral link.

I’m consistently seeing “as high as 300k” when I go to the page in incognito mode or in a browser where I’ve never logged in before.

If you’re using a browser where you have logged in before, the pre-existing cookies will affect the offer shown (generally into a fixed offer).

This is the same for all of the Amex cards (e.g. Amex Plat, Amex Gold, Amex Biz Gold, etc.).

These should all be treated the same on the Best Offers page – either show the “as high as” offer for all of them, or for none of them.

Dan

Amex is gradually getting closer to doing what their executives said they would be able to a couple of years back- microtargeting every single customer for the SUBs that will be offered and learning from which ones the customers actually accept. I definitely get it from Amex’s standpoint as it’s a very effective way to weed out maximizers like us and find the genuinely profitable customers.

Baris

I see a flat 150K offer, not as high as language or 300K anywhere 🙁

TravelGeek

Article was updated: “Amex seems to have pulled that offer as I’m now seeing a fixed 150K bonus points offer.”

KMO

150K. No thanks

Zen

I don’t like the “as high as” language. I would rather 250k straight up offer thank as high as 300k, coz you never know what you gon get

jerry

I tried applying and got no welcome offer at all. I abandoned the application
