Frequent Miler's latest team challenge, Million Mile Madness, is almost done! The last two weeks Greg, Nick, and Stephen competed to earn 1 Million SAS miles by flying 15 airlines. But who completed the challenge with the most Speed, Affordability, and Style?
Welcome to our Frequent Miler week in review, where we look back at some of the key posts this week here at Frequent Miler. This week was focused on cards: examining the best choices, planning an application strategy, and a reminder that the best laid plans of mice and men….might get changed in into a Chase Sapphire Preferred card. Read on for the details:
Planning my Amex Offers portfolio
We’ve previously discussed the value in having different kinds of Amex cards for access to different types of offers. In this post, Greg outlines his plans to align his wallet with the best possible offers. Hopefully, the recent interface changes won’t make the effort for naught. Personally, I couldn’t wait any longer for the Blue Business Plus: I recently applied and was instantly approved online. I am not convinced that I currently hold the ideal portfolio of Amex credit cards to maximize offers, but couldn’t sleep on the opportunity to earn 2X everywhere with no annual fee. Read on to find out Greg’s master plan.
Imagining the BOA Infinite Travel Rewards Card
Shhhh….Greg got wind of a rumored card coming this fall. While it has been long-rumored that Bank of America will make a foray into the premium travel card market, it sounds like the wheels are in motion and the card will become a reality soon. Could this be the true king-slayer that US Bank promised us in the Altitude Reserve? What features could it have? What features does it need? This one has me excited. BoA doesn’t really have the co-brand partnerships to support a transferable currency, which means sticking to what they know: points based on a cash value. They will obviously have to offer something substantially better than the Travel Rewards card and it will obviously be marketed to customers with substantial savings and investments. If it gets much better than the Travel Rewards card for that crowd, this could get interesting quickly.
A credit card plan for a well informed newbie
If a friend with excellent credit and no new cards wanted to suddenly jump into getting rewarded with miles and points, what are the 5 credit cards you would suggest — and in what order? Ahhh, to be young and….under 5/24. Check out Greg’s advice for a well-informed newbie and you can live vicariously through Ben.
Amex financial review from adding authorized users
Greg’s plan and strategy from Monday produced a lot of discussion in the comments focused on his plan to add authorized users to some of his Amex accounts. Many readers reported this type of activity leading to Financial Review. While it’s always difficult to know exactly what triggers an Amex Financial Review, it’s better to be safe than sorry. In this brief post, Greg explains how feedback from readers will affect his previously-stated plans.
Bye bye Fairmont card. I hardly knew ya…
If Greg hardly knew the Fairmont Visa, it is an absolute alien life form to me. Truth be told, I didn’t “get” the hype on this card….until it was too late. But I’m not sure if I’ve seen a hotel chain credit card with such an enthusiastic following. Unfortunately, Chase has sunset this card — and quickly. Everything is changing in August — read on to find out what, how, and when.
Make vanished Amex Offers reappear
If you’ve logged into your Amex account this week and you like the interface, that must be because you’re using a link to an old interface like the one found in this post. I imagine that someone thought this was a positive change, I’m just not sure who…..or how they got a role making decisions :-). Due to the repulsive nature of the new interface, you might have missed the sleight-of-hand that made some of your Amex offers vanish. In this post, learn how to retrieve that ace from your sleeve and use your offers to the max of your ability.
That’s it for this week at Frequent Miler. Check back soon for this week around the web and the last chance deals ending this week.
