Sears is offering an interesting structured deal today that stacks for what looks like a fantastic deal (depending on your view of Sears points): Get 10% off sitewide plus spend $125+, get $125 in “CASHBACK” points (Shop Your Way Rewards). Whats more, Christine from Unveiled Savings reached out to let us know that this stacks with a “tools” category promo for $50 more back on $125 for a total of $175 back on $125. Stack even further by combining with a shopping portal for 6% back / 6 Avios per $1. Unfortunately, the $125 portion of Shop Your Way “cashback” points post slowly — $15 within 24 hours and then $10 per month — and points expire quickly (see below). Still, if you have faith in Sears staying open and you intend to shop there every month, this can work out well.
The Deal
- Spend $125+, get $125 in cashback points sitewide with code FIREWORK

- “Tools” $50 back in posts post within 24 hours. Note that these terms contradict themselves by saying points are valid for 30 days and then saying they expire 7 days after receipt — I’d plan to use these points quickly.

Quick Thoughts
As noted at the top, there are stacking deals at play here. First is the $125 back on $125 shown above. That stacks with $50 back on $125 in Craftsman and other featured tools. Here’s a link to those.
The $125 back posts slowly, but the $50 in points on select Craftsman tools posts within 24 hours — so in total, you’ll get $65 back in about 24 hours and then $10 per month on the 15th of each month for the next 11 months, and those points are valid for 30 days.
Note that there is inconsistency in the expiration info of the $50 in points on tools. Specificially, see the terms of the “tools” deal under “key terms”. It says “points valid for 30 days”, but then goes on to say that the points will post the next day and be valid for 7 days. I only suggest going after this deal if you know you can use the points right away. If you can use the points, you can stack a great deal.
For example, here’s a set of tools that qualify. You can see the price is $149.99, but it qualifies for $176.50 back in points.
It can get better — add it to your cart and apply code FIREWORK and the price drops to $134.99.
Start through a shopping portal to get another 6% back / 6 Avios / 3 Ultimate Rewards for even further savings.
We don’t have recent reports in the Frequent Miler Laboratory, but in the past it was possible to earn portal rewards when shopping through the portal both when you are making a purchase today and in the future when using the Shop Your Way points — essentially doubling the rewards earned. I haven’t tested this recently — if any readers have, please let us know your results in the comments (and be sure to add results of experiments like that on the Laboratory page).
Of course, if you’re not looking for tools, you can still get $125 back on $125. Keep in mind the perpetual rumors that Sears is going to close down any minute. There is definitely some risk in waiting for Sears to pay out your points. As Toys R Us has recently reminded us (note: all stores are scheduled to close by Friday), retail giants can and do go out of business. That said, I remember people saying that about Sears seven or eight years ago and they are still here now. YMMV.
With deals like this happening all the time, I sure hope they stick around :-).

[…] BIG stack: $175 back on $125 (yes, that’s right) at Sears by Frequent Miler. I stopped posting these deals when you started getting the points spread out over 12 months. IMO it’s just not worth the effort involved anymore. […]
Sears stock price is down over 98% since 2007 and is around $2.20 with a market value of less than $1B. Generally when this happens in large companies like this, bankruptcy is filed within a year.
Generally yes. However Sears has been on life support for a decade now though but have stayed solvent by slowly shedding parts of the business. I think it’s far from a given that they’ll fold within a year. Very possible they do, but also very possible they somehow survive another 5 years.
My sentiments exactly. Nobody knows.

FYI most will be better off using the $20 off $100 coupon you can find on Retailmenot instead of the 10% coupon (provided your purchase is under $200). If you just buy $125 I would also suggest using the Retailmenot cashback instead of a portal (flat $ amount not a % – $10 back on $100)
This was a great post. Thank you for the clear and detailed directions. I went through Top Cash Back portal at 6%, bought my tools and all discounts worked just as you described. Now I have $187 in SYW points.
Does anyone know if points can be redeemed for gift cards?
Note: SYW points will be available to you only in installments
No, it can’t be redeemed for gcs.
Sears has another interesting promo, but it seems impossible to match features because of 13 month warranty. http://s7.sears.com/is/content/Sears/_ASAP/SEARS/Appliances/DAP/BrandShowcase/Rebates/Kenmore%20Challenge%206.20%20to%207.7%20revised.pdf?adcell=hp_ha_learnchallenge
Ibotta has Sears @ 10%
Nick, I still make regular Sears Purchases. For the past year, my results when redeeming SYWR points have been consistent. Portals have not been paying on redeemed SYWR points. However, they do pay on the difference if you don’t use SYWR for the full purchase. If you have $100 purchase and use $10 in SYWR points, the portals (Topcashback being my primary option) will track it at $90.
