Bilt Rewards has added a new 1-to-1 transfer partner: Etihad Guest. Now you can transfer 1-to-1 to Etihad from Bilt, Amex, Citi, and Capital One. It’s always good to see new transfer options, but use caution when considering transfers to Etihad.
Etihad points can be valuable for short-distance economy partner awards (e.g. fly JetBlue or AA cheaply) or to access excellent award availability flying Etihad itself. There are big downsides to transferring points to Etihad, though:
- The point price you see online for an award may not be the final price. For example, you may see that you can book a short flight for 6,000 miles, but the actual price may come to 6,300 miles.
- Etihad has awful change and cancellation rules. See this post for details.
- Etihad points expire after 18 months of inactivity. Worse, transferring in more points doesn’t reset the clock.
This new transfer option has been added to our database and can be seen (among other places on our site) in our Complete List of Transferable Points Partners.
