Quick Thoughts
In case you’re not familiar with Bitmo, it’s an app where you can buy first-hand gift cards either for yourself or to send as gifts to other people. With this particular promotion, you only get the 20% off when sending a gift card to someone else, so you’ll need to send to someone you trust. They can also send you up to two $10 gift cards at 20% off, so if you’re in two player mode then you can buy $40 worth of gift cards between you.
Not all brands in the Bitmo app are available in $5 or $10 denominations, but the majority are. That includes Groupon, GameStop, Lowe’s, movie theaters, restaurants, clothing stores and more.
One thing to be aware of is that payments are taken from your checking account rather than by credit card. I think they offer PayPal as a payment option nowadays, but they charge a fee for that which exceeds the miles/points/cashback you’d earn by paying by card that way.
Seeing as it can take a couple of days for payments to clear from your checking account, the gift card might not be available immediately. In my experience, Bitmo makes the first card you buy available immediately, with the second card being held until they’ve received the payment from your checking account, but YMMV.
