CLEAR has occasionally run promotions offering incentives to sign up for the service. Unfortunately, we hadn’t seen any new CLEAR incentives for quite some time. That has recently changed, with CLEAR and Alaska Mileage Plan offering a small incentive for signing up: you can get 1,000 bonus Alaska Mileage Plan miles (or 1,500 miles for elite members) when you sign up for CLEAR along with a very slightly discounted rate. This isn’t nearly as good as some of the promotions we saw throughout the pandemic, but it beats no incentive at all if you were already thinking about singing up.
The Deal
- Alaska Mileage Plan is offering $10 off the standard price of a 12-month CLEAR Plus membership when you link your membership to your Alaska Mileage Plan account. Additionally, you can receive bonus 1,000 miles as a general member or 1,500 miles as an elite member when you sign up for a new CLEAR Plus membership and 1,250 miles at renewal for elite members who link their Alaska account.

Quick Thoughts
A couple of years ago, we saw offers like $100 in United TravelBank credit or 10,000 miles. Unfortunately, I think those types of offers are a thing of the past as we haven’t seen anything like that in quite a while. The good news is that several Amex cards reimburse the CLEAR fee, so if you have a card that offers a fee reimbursement, you might be thinking about singing up and then may as well earn something for doing it.
Just recently, during our Party of 5 challenge, we helped Carrie get signed up for CLEAR while we were on our way to the airport. You can do most of the sign up process right from your phone and then you just need to stop by a kiosk to get fingerprinted and have your eyes scanned at the airport. I held out for a long time since my home airport doesn’t even have a CLEAR lane, but it has come in handy in skipping the long security lines a few times now.
While a thousand Alaska miles wouldn’t move the needle much for me, I wouldn’t turn them down if I were going to get the membership by July 16th.
H/T: Award Wallet
This promotion appears to still be active, but only for elites.
My airport doesn’t have Clear. Do I get the bonus for just signing up or do I have to complete the process in person for it to work. Thanks.
My home airport doesn’t have CLEAR either Nick, but I signed up over a year ago anyway. I’m glad I had it one early morning flight out of MSP. I was cutting it really close due to a missed train on the Blue Line. CLEAR was open, I zipped through security, hustled to my gate, and they were nearly done boarding. CLEAR saved my xxx on that one! TSA Precheck line was stacked deep, so that wouldn’t have helped me that morning. Lesson: Get CLEAR even if your home airport doesn’t have it.
