Update: Many have received better offers than those targeted to my family.  For example, people have reported the following offers:

  • Spend $500, get 1,000 points, up to 3 times (good offer IMO)
  • Spend $4K, get 8k points, up to 3 times (good offer IMO)
  • Spend $7K, get 15K points, up to 3 times (good offer IMO)
  • Spend $20K, get 25K points, up to 3 times (bad offer IMO)
  • Spend $100K, get 100K points, up to 3 times (LOL!)

IMO = In My Opinion

Amex has introduced a new Amex Offer for Marriott Bonvoy Business cards: Spend $20K, get 25K bonus points, up to three times.

The Deal

Spend $20,000+, get 25,000 bonus Marriott Bonvoy points, up to 3 times.

Details

Get 25,000 bonus Marriott Bonvoy points after using your enrolled Card to spend $20,000+ in one or more eligible transactions, up to 3 times by 12/31/2020.

Terms

Must first add offer to Card and then use same Card to redeem. Only purchases made with a Marriott Bonvoy Business™ American Express® Card are eligible. Limit 1 enrolled Card per Card Member across all American Express offer channels. Your enrollment of an eligible American Express Card for this offer extends only to the Basic Card Member. Offer is non-transferable. An “eligible transaction” means a purchase made with your enrolled Card on or before 12/31/2020. Each time you make one or more eligible transactions totaling at least $20,000 you will receive 25,000 bonus Marriott Bonvoy points, up to 3 times. Cash advances, other fees and charges such as interest, annual fees and foreign currency conversion fees are not eligible transactions and do not qualify for this offer. You may not receive the bonus points if we receive inaccurate information or are otherwise unable to identify your purchase as eligible for the offer. For example, you may not receive the bonus points if (a) the Merchant uses a third-party to sell their products or services; or (b) the Merchant uses a third-party to process or submit your transaction to us (e.g., using mobile or wireless card readers); or (c) you choose to make a purchase using a third-party payment account or make a purchase using a mobile or digital wallet. Purchases may fall outside of the offer period in some cases due to a delay in merchants submitting transactions to us or if the purchase date differs from the date you made the transaction (for example, the purchase date for online orders may be the shipping date). Note that we may not receive information about your qualifying purchase until all items from your eligible purchase have been provided/shipped by Merchant. Limit 1 enrolled Card per American Express Card online account. The enrolled Card account must be active, not be past due, canceled or have a returned payment outstanding to receive the bonus points. These bonus points are in addition to any points you would normally receive for purchases on your Card under the terms of the Marriott Bonvoy member account, but the number of bonus points you receive will be based on the purchase price after any credit or other discount is applied. Bonus points will be credited to your member account within 90 days after 12/31/2020, provided that American Express receives information from the merchant about your qualifying purchase. We may not credit bonus points to, or we may take away bonus points that have been credited to, your member account if the qualifying purchase is returned or canceled. Amex Offers are dynamic and personalized, so the offers you see may change. For questions regarding your Card Account, please call the number on the back of your Card. By adding an offer to a Card, you agree that American Express may send you communications about the offer. ©2020 Marriott International, Inc. All Rights Reserved. My Take

Short answer: LOL. No.

Longer answer: If you spend exactly $20K with this offer in non-bonus categories, you’ll earn a total of 65K points since the card offers 2X for base spend.  So, that comes to 3.25 points per dollar if you spend exactly $20K, $40K, or $60K.  With the Marriott Reasonable Redemption Value of 0.72 cents per point, that means that you can average 2.34% in rewards.  That’s good, but not good enough for me to recommend committing all of your spend to this Marriott card.  Plus, it’s not even as good as the usual value of some competing cards.  See: Best cards for everyday spend.

One little wrinkle is that this card offers a 35K free night certificate after $60K calendar year spend.  If you’ve already spent $40K, I guess a case can be made to spend another $20K in order to earn 65K points plus a 35K cert.  I certainly wouldn’t do it if you needed $40K or $60K more spend.

Similar but much better offer on Amex Blue Business Plus:

Each time you make one or more eligible transactions totaling at least $5,500+, you will receive 8,000 Membership Rewards® additional Membership Rewards points, up to 3 times.”

So if I’m reading this correctly, with a $5.5K spend I will receive a total of 2x+8K=19K MR points, effectively 3.47x.

(Similar offer on P2 and slightly lower spend offer for P3). Makes it really tempting to pay property and income taxes.

Let me put this another way. I currently earn 2.625% cashback on my BofA card. I’ve been offered 4x on my Marriott card. Would I buy Marriott points at 0.66 cents per point? No. Freaking. Way.

Jeff

I got the 1000 on $500 on my Business Card as well. I have the 4 traditional Marriott Cards and never “upgraded” (though I’m not clear on whether Amex created actual new cards or not, I lost track a long time ago but I know I never switched).

stvr

I continue to argue that 0.72 cents per point is tremendously inflated and reflects edge case, 95th percentile uses of the points.

Got the “Spend $500, get 1,000 points, up to 3 times” is that on top of the following?

Is it still 4X at U.S. restaurants, at U.S. gas stations, on wireless telephone services purchased directly from U.S. service providers and on U.S. purchases for shipping?

2X on all other purchases?

Eric

Just received a spend $100K for 100,000 bonus points.

I received a slightly different offer with the same expiration date: spend $4k, get 8k points up to 3 times

Rohit

received an offer of 1000 extra points for $500 spend. three times. bonvoy business card. i think it may also be tied to your credit limit. mine is only 3 grand so no use getting a 20 K spending offer….not that i would run it but amex realizes that anyays.

Wil

I got the same offer on my biz card.

Ken

I received the same offer on my business card.

Get 1,000 bonus Marriott Bonvoy points after using your enrolled Card to spend $500+ in one or more eligible transactions, up to 3 times by 12/31/2020. See terms.

Credit limit is $30k so I don’t think it’s based on that. I generally don’t put in more than $1k a month on my card so maybe it’s based on spend history.

Brian C

Got the same one.

Josh

I got the spend $500, get 100k points offer as well. Quick question: would we get 3k bonus points with a $1500 transaction or just 1k bonus points (since it is just one transaction) ?

Isavethings

Biz card. Nothing on my consumer card

Shawn

Same offer, spend 4k, get 8k points up to 3 times. Bonvoy Business card.
