Quick Thoughts

Hotels.com became less appealing several years ago when it slashed its rewards program from earning 10% back on your stay to 2%. However, it’s still the site of choice for many people, especially when booking independent properties and/or hotels where you don’t care about receiving elite status benefits, earning elite night credits, etc.

For those folks, a 10% discount on their gift cards could be very appealing, especially considering these don’t go on sale frequently. There’s also an unusually high limit of ten cards, meaning you can buy up to $5,000 worth of discounted Hotels.com gift cards.

There are a couple of things to bear in mind before buying these. First, you can redeem only one Hotels.com gift card per reservation, though you can merge balances here. You can combine up to five cards, which is helpful given the deal limit. It’s also worth noting that not all properties allow you to redeem gift cards for stays. If you have a particular property in mind that you want to book, it’s worth starting the booking process to see if a gift card can be applied.

Since these cards are sold by Newegg, you can also earn 4x Membership Rewards by paying with an Amex Business Gold card if this is one of your top two spending categories this billing cycle. Alternatively, you can earn 2x with the Amex Business Platinum. In addition, some folks are targeted for an Amex Offer for 1% off of Newegg purchases, which will stack with this discount.
