Choice Privileges is offering a 10% rebate when you redeem your Choice points for gift cards. That still makes for a poor redemption that ordinarily wouldn’t be notable, but with some other programs and credit card issuers pulling gift card redemptions completely in recent weeks, it seemed worth a mention for anyone who needs to redeem points for gift cards.

The Deal

  • Choice Privileges is offering a 10% rebate on points redeemed for gift cards (ordinarily 16K points = $50 gift card, with the promo you’ll get 1600 back for a net cost of 14.4K points)
  • Direct link to this promotion

Key Terms

  • Expires May 22, 2020
  • This is a rebate rather than a discount, so you’ll need to have 16K points in your account and then get 1600 points back)

Quick Thoughts

This only yields a value of just over a third of a cent per point (14,400 net points for a $50 gift card), so it’s a very poor value for Choice points. I wouldn’t recommend this redemption, but if you’ve got a greater need for what the gift cards can buy, maybe you’d rather cash out now. As noted at the top, most programs have moved in the opposite direction, getting rid of gift card redemptions (as we reported with Best Western and Capital One recently).

Oddly, digital gift cards aren’t available — only physical ones that need to be shipped.

Very poor value indeed 1/3 price of what they sold them! This is especially egregious recalling they were selling these points at 1.14 CPP (or more) during 2019 Daily Getaways!
