Chase recently introduced JetBlue TrueBlue as a 1:1 transfer partner (See: Chase Ultimate Rewards: JetBlue Added As Transfer Partner). Citi has responded by increasing the transfer ratio from ThankYou points effective 9/13/18 to 1:1 if you hold the Citi ThankYou Premier or Citi Prestige cards.
The Deal
- Increased transfer ratios from Citi ThankYou points to JetBlue TrueBlue beginning September 13, 2018:
- Citi ThankYou Preferred: 1,000 ThankYou Points =
500800 TrueBlue points (1:0.8) - Citi ThankYou Premier: 1,000 ThankYou Points =
8001,000 TrueBlue points (1:1) - Citi Prestige: 1,000 ThankYou Points =
8001,000 TrueBlue points (1:1)
- Citi ThankYou Preferred: 1,000 ThankYou Points =
Quick Thoughts
JetBlue runs a revenue-based program, so points are generally worth about 1.5 cents each towards airfare (give or take depending on your redemption), though you can get a rebate on points redeemed if you are a JetBlue credit card holder, increasing value accordingly. That wouldn’t make the new transfer ratio incredibly compelling if you’re only earning 1 ThankYou point per dollar as you are ideally using those points for more value through strategic partner transfers. Still, if you’re earning ThankYou points at a better-than-1x rate, and/or if you have a redemption that would save you points over other options, this could work out to be a good deal. At the very least, this is an improved deal over the current transfer ratios and a ncie change to see in light of the deal with Chase. We will update our Citi transfer partners resource page on 9/13 when the new ratio goes into effect.

By itself it’s not a jaw-dropping rate, but given the reliability of JetBlue award bookings and relatively consistent redemption rates I think it establishes a new, comfortable floor on TYP values. Plus, when stacked with the 10% back offer(s) on JetBlue award redemptions on JetBlue credit cards it means you could get pretty respectable redemptions.
