About an hour ago we published a Quick Deal about a Delta business class award sale: Delta Business Class Award Sale to Europe: Up to 16% Off Normal Prices. I jumped online and re-booked a family trip to Europe in order to save 20,000 miles per person (with my Delta Platinum status, award changes are free). And, I noticed that award availability was remarkably good.
To see just how good it was, I looked at one-way business class award flights, for four people, from various cities to Paris in July. Here’s what I found:
Note: The following images show one-way award searches, so the prices do not reflect the round-trip award sale prices. In other words, round trip prices may be less than double the amount shown.
Atlanta to Paris, 4 seats, business class
Almost every day is available at saver level for four people in business class.
Minneapolis to Paris, 4 seats, business class
Not as good as Atlanta, but still pretty good!
Dallas Fort Worth to Paris, 4 seats, business class
Dallas is not a Delta hub, so I didn’t expect to find as many award seats available, but this still ain’t bad!
Denver to Paris, 4 seats, business class
Again, not a Delta hub, but not terrible results…
Chicago to Paris, 4 seats, business class
Not a Delta hub, but excellent award availability:
Detroit to Paris, 4 seats, business class
Almost every day is available:
And, here’s the round trip award picture from Detroit. Note that even though there are fewer lowest fare days, many of the other days have very good round trip award prices (e.g. 115K, 125K, and even 132.5K isn’t terrible):
Other destination cities (London, Amsterdam, Frankfurt, Rome)
I looked briefly at award flights from Chicago to London, Amsterdam, Frankfurt, and Rome and found the following:
- Great availability to London, Frankfurt, and Rome
- OK availability to Amsterdam
Book it now!
I have no idea how long this sale or this great award availability will last. If you’re planning a summer trip to Europe, I recommend booking soon.
If you need extra Delta miles, you can transfer from Amex Membership Rewards (there is a small fee for transferring to US based programs) or from Starwood Preferred Guest (SPG). If you transfer from SPG, remember that 20K transfers turn into 25K miles. Also keep in mind that while Membership Rewards transfers are immediate, SPG transfers take longer. It may take up to 5 days or so for the transfer to complete.
[…] Delta Award Sale […]
I have done very well with my Delta redemptions the past few years. You see all the noise and complaints about Delta. American was just the only way for decent redemptions. I have done much better with Delta vs American on some major routes and tough tickets. This is pretty good. It doesnt matter the “published chart” anyway if there are never any available seats at low level. Trying ot book something myself here.
Open jaws work for the discount as well. Just booked MCI-LHR//AMS-MCI for 115,000 each for 2. This was 160,000 when I looked 4 days ago. Plus, avoid that pesky London tax!
