Dollar General is running a great deal this week, offering a 15% discount on Lowe’s gift cards. It’s hard to scale though because it requires a digital coupon which can only be used once per account.
The Deal
- Save 15% on Lowe’s gift card with a digital coupon at Dollar General.
- Direct link to offer.
Key Terms
- Expires February
15,29, 2020. - Limit one per customer.
Quick Thoughts
I was excited when I saw the other day that Dollar General would be running this offer as it offered a great gift card reselling opportunity. Although a limit of one per customer was listed, I wasn’t too concerned as with past Dollar General deals (e.g. 15% off GameStop gift cards) you could simply do a tour of all the local stores in your area to buy one at each, then repeat as many times as you could throughout the week.
This deal is different though as you have to have a Dollar General account and load a digital coupon to it. Once you’ve redeemed the offer once, it won’t work at other stores. When setting up a Dollar General account, you have to verify your phone number by SMS which makes it harder to scale this deal.
The good thing is that they carry variable load Lowe’s gift cards which means you can buy a $500 card for $425. If other household members have an account, they can each get a $500 card too.
Dollar General is also offering a 10% discount on the following gift card brands:
- Applebee’s
- Fandango
- Krispy Kreme
- IHOP
- Wendy’s
- Brinker
- Spa & Wellness
- AutoZone
- Chili’s
Those nine brands don’t require that you load a digital coupon, so you can buy as many of those as you like for 10% off.
Yesterday I loaded the coupon on 2 different DG accounts. Today I went to buy the gift cards. I was able to buy one $500 Lowes gift certificate on my DG account. But when I went to buy one on my husbands account the Lowes digital coupon wasn’t availble (even tho I loaded it on yesterday and its not there today.) I need to buy an upright freezer so I really could use the discount. The manager told me that it was a ‘glitch in the system’ and she took ALL of the Lowes gift cards and put them into the office so no one could by them. So I was only able to buy one. It was pretty frustrating.
Is this offer dead or is it still running until the 29th? Can’t find the digital coupon anywhere.
I saw a data point of someone using the offer today, so it does still work. However, Dollar General might have pulled the digital coupon early – I already used it, so I can’t check if it’s still available to load.
Great find, Stephen! One question – coupon says it expires Feb 29th. Does the link to get it expire on Feb 15th, or is this an update needed here?
I’d missed that date. Dollar General’s gift card deals usually last until the Saturday after they started, but I guess this is an exception seeing as it’s a digital coupon rather than an instant discount. Thanks for the heads-up – I’ll update the post.
I created an account, but I can’t find the digital coupon for Lowes on the DG web site. Any idea what I’m doing wrong?
Found it. DOC has slightly different link that went directly to the coupon. I wonder if it took a while for my account to be set up at DG.
Where would be the best place to resell the gift cards?
It depends on if you have access to bulk selling rates as sites like CardCash and Raise are unlikely to be profitable.

Any amount over $200 is a cash purchase.
That requirement depends on the store – I bought two $500 cards yesterday (one under my account and one under my wife’s) and paid with a credit card for both.
THe store I was at today said the rule was for all stores and gave a reason as helping against the scams to get elderly folks to buy gift cards. Guess they were incorrect.
