Frequent Miler's latest team challenge, Million Mile Madness, is happening now! Follow us as Greg, Nick, and Stephen compete to earn 1 Million SAS miles by flying 15 airlines before November 23rd. Who will complete the challenge with the most Speed, Affordability, and Style?

Follow along here!

This week, while our son is at camp, Frequent and Mrs. Miler have been enjoying our northern Michigan workation.  Each morning we pull out our laptops to get an hour or two of work done, then we’re off to see the sights.  We’ve vacationed in northern Michigan many times before and always love it.  Today, I’m taking a break from writing.  Enjoy the photos.

Ing: oops thanks for the spelling correction!

Ing

Great post, from my Interlochen perspective–enjoy your time “up north”! I have to say, though, the Soo is actually named “Sault Sainte Marie” (for the Saint Mary’s River immediately to the north, not for the Sioux people quite distantly to the west).

Jimmy @TravelByPoints

Have a wonderful time! We have heard many wonderful things from our friends about Northern Michigan, and would love to visit one day soon.

So many trolls posting here about the location of that Park Inn that I felt compelled to make a correction(You do know that people whom live below da bridge are trolls right. 🙂

Every Yooper knows that that Park Inn is really located in da Soo. :)==

The library in Elk Rapids is on the island, in an oldharbor-master’s house. Samll, homey, lots of nooks and crannies for sitting and reading, beautiful porch with tables and puzzles and incredible view of the harbor and bay beyond. I always think it would be great to be there during a storm, watching the waves from that nice enclosed porch (I’m from Oregon, and te Oregon coast is like that!). And the gardens/park area around the library is beautiful, too, with lots of seclusion.

Miler,

If in Sioux St. Marie, you should think about doing the Lake Superior circle tour. Duluth and Grand Marais in MN are not to be missed, and the area around Thunder Bay is also great.

Enjoy your break! Great place to visit…driven there a few times from MN and can’t wait for my kids to be a little older to drive back again.

Don’t miss out on the great Michigan wines! Several world class wineries, don’t miss Black Star Farms in Sutton’s Bay and on Old Mission Peninsula.

I am there right now! Sault Are. Marie for the 50th anniversary of the International Bridge. we went to the bridge lighting and fireworks last night. Today it is Engineering Day at the Locks. Will I see you in the Lobby?

FrequentMiler

jane: Yes, I’m here right now too! We’re going to go dowtown for breakfast so that we can watch the boats go by while we eat, then we hope to walk around the locks since they are supposedly opened to the public today (how cool is that?). Look for me in my red Sleeping Bear Dunes t-shirt 🙂

Nice to see the photos from my hometown area. Don’t forget Leland as well and Traverse City the Cherry Capital of the World

Hey – I’ve really enjoyed being challenged in my thinking through your posts! We’re in Jackson, and have vacationed up in that area the last few summers. You should check out Elk Rapids. GREAT little town! The library (!) is really a neat place, the natural areas around the river to the beach, the harbor there, …we love that place. My oldest is heading to Camp Barakel next week, but, alas, we won’t be able to do northern Michigan this summer! Also, have you checked out all the waterfalls in the UP, around Munising?

Owen

Sioux saint Marie ?

FrequentMiler

Owen: Yes! Sioux St Marie is correct

Chris D: Coincidentally, we stopped in Elk Rapids for the first time ever just to stretch our legs. We were impressed! People were having so much fun playing in the rapids and at the beach. What is special about the library? No, haven’t been west to Munising…

Rick: We spent a little time in Leland and Traverse City too (both great places!). In Traverse city we saw a terrific movie at the newly restored State Theater. Wow, it’s amazing how nice that theater is on the inside. It’s truly beautiful and the seats are actually comfortable (are you listening Michigan Theater in Ann Arbor?)
