Frontier Mastercard now provides free checked bags for cardholders

7

Yesterday Frontier Airlines and Barclays announced that cardholders of the Frontier World Mastercard have a new benefit: two free checked bags for the primary cardholder. The benefit is effective immediately.

In order to be eligible for the checked bags benefit, cardholders must book the ticket directly from Frontier, pay for the ticket with their Frontier Mastercard and add their Frontier Miles number to the ticket before check-in.

Quick Thoughts

This is a nice improvement on the Frontier card, especially given how cheap most of the airline’s fares are…and since checked bags can be as much as $99 each.

Frontier cardholders also get waived award redemption fees and new applicants currently have the opportunity to get a a year of Gold Status by spending $3k on the card within the first 90 days. That gets you seat assignments at booking, no change or cancel fees, free carry-on bags and premium seating at check-in (such as it is).

For folks who fly Frontier a lot, all of that could add up to a very interesting combination and put a dent into the copious fees that the airline is known for.

if getting the card now in Oct but wait til next Jan to complete the $3k spend, will the Gold status be valid til Dec 2026 or 2025? Thx

I have had the Frontier World Mastercard for about 20 years. I have never paid an annual fee. I don’t fly Frontier often but I’ve held onto the card since it is fee free. But it looks like a new World Mastercard has a $99 annual fee (after first year).

Do you think my old fee-free card qualifies for the two free bags? (Personally, I’d rather have one free carry-on, but that’s another story,) I’d rather find out about the free bags or not ahead of time rather than get stuck at the end of Frontier’s laborious booking and checkout process. Thanks.

Will this work if you have a Go Wild pass, provided that is purchased with the card?

Jonathan S

I’d expect it to. My understanding is that Frontier status gives you free bags with Go Wild, so I don’t see why free bags from the credit card would be any different.

Ben

Honestly how much different is Frontier than the legacy carrier’s Economy and BE these days with the current race to the bottom.

I’ve flown Frontier. The seats were firmer, and no free drink service, but it was fine. I’m happy to save money by not being forced to pay for checked bags and airplane food like decades ago.

Last time I flew it, I wondered if I was the only airport lounger who was flying out with Frontier, hah.
