Quick Thoughts
This new Fall/Winter GoWild! pass is available for $299 and is valid for six months. At renewal, the price will increase to $399. Six months of unlimited flights for $299 sounds like a great deal, right? It could be…but there are quite a few restrictions.
For most domestic routes, you can’t book your flight until the day before departure (that window moves out to 10 days for international flights). There’s a note in the terms that says that certain “GoWild” fares will be available to confirm in advance, but it’s unclear how extensive that feature will be.
Additional restrictions include:
- Taxes and fees aren’t included in the pass. These can be especially significant on international flights where taxes and fees can top $100.
- There are 29 blackout days, many of which are days when many folks will want to travel.
- You’re paying $299 now for a pass that won’t be useable for another month.
That said, there are also a couple of significant improvements in this version of the pass:
- If you buy it by August 23rd, you’ll get complimentary Frontier Silver status, which gives you the ability to choose a seat at booking and priority boarding.
- You now earn miles on all GoWild! purchases. Previously flights didn’t earn miles or help you qualify for elite status.
Overall, this newest Frontier GoWild! pass has the potential to be a great deal for folks who have lots of flexibility and can take multiple trips between September and February. However, given the booking limitations and additional fees involved it’s worth doing the math to make sure that it pencils out before…going wild.
If you get the Frontier Mastercard and Gold status, does that make the offer more compelling as far as additional fees go?
Frontier just dumped a bunch of routes. We lost 4 from MKE: PHl, RDU, MSO, and RSW. A TPG story from July 31 has a whole list of 43 removed routings, including Cancun, Puerto Vallarta, and St. Martin.
