Quick Thoughts

I had no idea until now that there are different versions of the Happy Dining gift cards that have different restaurants listed, mainly based on different regions.

The terms state that there’s a limit of $50 savings per customer, but that’s a limit per card per customer. That means you could buy five of each of the nine cards if you wanted.

Somewhat interestingly, there are a couple of non-restaurant options on the Ultimate Eats Southwest Teen’s Choice gift card. One of those is Nike, so I guess teens are eating tennis shoes rather than Tide Pods nowadays.

These gift cards work like Visa cards, so it should be possible to use those specific cards to buy Nike gift cards in-store. That could make it a profitable deal for gift card resellers depending on the rates you can get for Nike.

GiftCardMall is on several cashback portals, so be sure to click through from one of those to earn an extra ~2% cashback.

Restaurants typically pre-auth for the bill +20% assuming that you’re going to add a tip. With that in mind, other than the fast food type places such as Burger King or Panera, I would think these would be extremely difficult to drain at a place like Red Lobster or Buffalo Wild Wings.

Pretty decent stack at bravo while they’re offering $100 gift card with bonus $25 rewards card (redeemable next year for like 3 months). Could buy the happy dining $100 card for $80 and then turn that around for a $100 gc plus $25 reward card. Not bad. I did a bit better with the current amex offers ($10 back after $40 spend) by using 5 of the offers on $200 worth of gift cards.

Kids are still eating Tide pods. Just give them some LSD first and all those swirly colors!

I bought some of these with my Amex card at Staples when they were 10% off and then got 10% back through the Amex promotion. Then used them in store at Cheesecake Factory when it was buy a $25 gc, get 2 slices of cheesecake. The card says right on it to use as credit rather than debit or gift card. But there were still issues with trying to just swipe it to pay (several staff members tried more than one register). Finally worked just fine when the card number was manually typed in, rather than swiped.

The card pin is not covered by a scratch off sticker and the whole number can be easily viewed under the cardboard. I saw that to say I have concerns about these being hacked (although a lot of effort for $25 each) even though it seems they can only be used in store. So when I buy them, I’ve been using them almost immediately to purchase gift cards at wherever I plan to eventually spend them

With so many gift card promos out now, one could get Happy cards, use them to buy gift cards in store, and likely get additional gift card value added at this time of year. I know Panera and Barnes & Noble both have gift card promotions going on right now. Might be worth the hassle if done at a larger scale.
