Quick Thoughts
If you were planning a paid stay in Europe, this targeted Amex Offer is a good way to save up to 20% on your accommodation costs. As noted above, be sure to check the list of participating properties as not every Hilton property will trigger the statement credit.
It’s also important to ensure that your bill will come to $500 or more by the time you stay. If your total is only marginally above $500 when converted to USD today, exchange rate fluctuations between now and your stay could result in it dropping below $500 when converted. While a better currency conversion is beneficial in that it lowers your bill, if it means missing out on the $100 statement credit then it’s not so good.
If you have Hilton Gold status, you’ll probably be best off booking your stay via the Kiindly shopping portal. That’s because most shopping portals only offer 1% cashback for Gold members, whereas Kiindly offers a higher rate – at present it’s 4.1%.
Update: I’ve added a direct link to the Amex Offer via the Amex Connect website. This should mean you can add it to any card you like, so you can earn 12-14x on Hilton Ascend, Aspire and Business cards.
Could this $500 be hit across multiple stays in Europe? Or must it be hit during one stay/transaction?
It’s hard to know for sure. There’s no wording that states it must be done in one transaction, so I think you’ll be good on multiple stays.
[…] The terms don’t state that the property has to be in the US, so this should work worldwide. If you’ll be staying at one of Hilton’s brands in Europe though, you might be able to save more with this Amex Offer instead. […]
This is available on a few other Amex cards I have, but not available on my Aspire. When I go to the Connect site, regardless of whether I am logged in or not, I get this error:
“Based on the Card Number you’ve entered, you can enroll in this offer and other personalized offers by logging into your American Express Account.”
When I click ‘Go To Your Account’ I get this error:
“Sorry about that! It doesn’t happen often, but offers are currently unavailable. Please try again later.”
So, I cannot add it to Aspire.
I am bummed about this, as we definitely can use this offer and it would be great to use the Aspire card in conjunction with it. Any hints for me?
I’m afraid not – if it’s not available on your Aspire card through the Connect site, I don’t know how else to load it to that particular card.
bummer–we have 2 hilton stays in Europe this summer at hotels that qualify. however neither my wife nor I have this targeted offer. Could have saved us $400 between the two of us. Any way to get targeted offers added on?
That’s a great point – I’ve just added a link in the post to the Amex Connect site. You should be able to add the offer to any of your Amex cards, including Hilton cards.
Woohoo! Thanks Stephen was able to enroll both our cards. I forgot one of our stays is on points, but it’ll save us $200 on the other stay. (was tempted to convert a couple nights on our award stay to revenue to take advantage of this promo, but think I’ll still stick with using my points). Thanks!
Awesome, glad it worked 🙂
