Hilton has made another incremental improvement when it comes to the free night certificates you can earn from some of their Amex credit cards.
In November 2021, Hilton updated their website to list all of your certificates with their expiry dates when logging in to your account. They’ve done something similar with their app as it’s now possible to see details of your certificates there too.
Similar to the website, the app displays both unredeemed certificates and certificates that have been redeemed for upcoming stays. You can tap on each certificate to obtain more details about it. Hilton helpfully lists how the certificate was earned, as well as the certificate number and expiration date.
As a reminder, there are a number of ways you can earn these Hilton free night certificates:
- Hilton Aspire
- 1 free night certificate received each year, including your first year of card membership
- 1 free night certificate when spending $60,000 on the card in a calendar year
- Hilton Surpass
- 1 free night certificate when spending $15,000 on the card in a calendar year
- Welcome offer sometimes includes free night certificate(s) in addition to or instead of bonus points
- Hilton Business Card
- 1 free night certificate when spending $15,000 on the card in a calendar year
- 1 free night certificate when spending $60,000 on the card in a calendar year
All we need now is for Hilton to build the functionality to allow us to redeem these free night certificates online rather than having to call up to make a reservation with them.

What is the name of the hilton app that can control this? Hilton honors book hotels ? Hilton service app ? I will download it on my iphone 11. 🙂
It’s Hilton Honors: Book Hotels.
It’s funny since I have one certificate earned as part of sign up bonus on the business card earlier this year. I have it applied to a future booking but the app doesn’t show that I have a certificate. The website does.
Hey Stephen, how does someone acquire 7 free night certificates??
One or two got extended due to COVID. I then got a cert when upgrading a no annual fee card to an Aspire last year (no bonus points sadly), then another from that card at renewal. One late last year on my Surpass from spending $15k, then another when spending $15k this year. I also got one from spending $15k on my Hilton Business card this year.
That makes sense. Do you have plans to use your certificates in the near future?
Yep, 5 of them have already been redeemed for upcoming stays – they seem to still appear online & in the app until after the stay. I’ll then have two left – one expiring in May 2023 and one in June 2023, so plenty of time to use those.
Good to know, strange that they show as available even though you have them booked for an upcoming stay. Enjoy your upcoming stays 🙂
Having to call to book makes 0 sense
This. Hyatt lets you book rooms and apply available free-night certificates online.
So does Marriott. Hilton is way behind.
Some Doctor’s are Still doing that too….
