There are quite a few Chase Offers around at the moment for different hotel brands. In addition to the ones for various IHG brands, there’s one giving 10% back at Hyatt Place.
The Deal
- Get 10% back when spending $100+ at Hyatt Place with a Chase Offer.
Key Terms
- Expires March 3, 2024.
- Maximum $40 cashback.
- Offer valid one time only.
- Offer only valid at Hyatt Place properties.
- Offer only valid on purchases made directly with the merchant.
- Offer not valid on purchases made using third-party services, delivery services, or a third-party payment account (e.g., buy now pay later).
Quick Thoughts
In an ideal world you’d find this on a World of Hyatt credit card so that you’ll also earn 4x points. I sadly didn’t, but did get it on a Chase Sapphire Preferred card so I’d at least earn 2x Ultimate Rewards if I use it.
Even if you don’t have any Hyatt Place stays planned for the next couple of months, it might still be possible to lock in the savings from the Chase Offer. If you have a nearby Hyatt Place that sells physical Hyatt gift cards, you could buy $100-$400 of those which should trigger the statement credit.
With the points cost usually so low compared to cash cost, does it ever make sense to pay cash at Hyatt’s even with 10% off?
If you go the gift card route you can cover charges, like food, spa charges or parking, not included in a points booking at some of Hyatt’s higher end hotels.
That’s a good idea. Have you had luck finding a Hyatt that sells them? I haven’t tried at a Hyatt At Marriotts, I am like 0 for 8. They always tell me to buy them on line.
For sub-$100 stays it can often make sense to pay cash rather than redeem points. Add in the points you earn on paid stays and if there’s a promo offering bonus points, it can potentially be worth it. That said, it’s been a while since I last paid cash for a Hyatt stay as points has been the better option for us recently.
Like Mike commented below though, it can also be useful for things like parking, pet fees, food, etc.
Hyatt point value can be relatively bad during off peak times compared to cash rates. For example, I’m looking at NYC in Jan/Feb right now and it’s under a penny per point, even after factoring in things like destination fees on a paid stay (compared to 2cpp normally).
But if I pay cash I can check off a new and unusual cat 5-6 brand on my brand explorer bingo sheet for $160 (vs 17k+ points). If you stay at an uncommon brand, and kinda squint, you can imagine that being akin to 20% back (+/- ymmv) from brand explorer. If there’s a cashback promo or giftcards in play, it can be even better. I controversially chose a $100 gift certificate instead of 5000 points on milestone awards in part because the $100 should cover 10,000+ points in situations like this. Note: If you routinely get over 2cpp, this could be a bad deal… but I cat 1/2 are my sweet spots so it works for me.
Drat, this offer would have been handy for me.
