IHG One Rewards has opened “pre-registration” for a Spring promotion which allows members the opportunity to earn 2,000 bonus points every two nights. There is no earning cap with this promotion and it will be valid on all stays between 2/9/23 and 4/14/23.

Key Terms

  • Members can pre-register for this Promotion starting January 18, 2023, through February 8, 2023 (the “Pre-Registration Period”).

  • Members will be able to stay and earn IHG One Rewards bonus points under this Promotion beginning February 9, 2023 and ending on April 14, 2023 (the “Promotion Period”).

  • Members who did not register during the Pre-Registration Period may register for the Promotion during the Promotion Period.

  • After registering for the Promotion, a member can earn 2,000 bonus points for every two (2) qualifying room night stays during the Promotion Period.

  • Members will have an unlimited earning potential for this Promotion during the Promotion Period.

  • The time needed for awarding points can vary with each promotion, so please allow up to 6 weeks for any earned bonus points to be posted to the recipient’s account.

  • To be a qualifying room night under the Promotion, the room night must fall within the Promotion Period and must be part of a Promotion Eligible Qualifying Stay. As stated, the “Promotion Period” is from February 9, 2023 through April 14, 2023.

  • For purposes of this Promotion, a “Promotion Eligible Qualifying Stay” is defined as a minimum of 1-night stay at a participating hotel booked under a Qualifying Rate, with total spend exceeding US $30 (or local currency equivalent) for each night.

  • Participating hotels include all IHG® Hotels & Resorts and Mr and Mrs Smith properties, with the exception of those Six Senses® Hotels, Resorts, & Spas that do not participate in IHG One Rewards and those Iberostar Beachfront Resorts that are not yet fully integrated into the IHG One Rewards program.  (To check if a specific Six Senses or Iberostar hotel is participating in this Promotion, contact the hotel directly.)

  • Stays booked using Rewards Nights or Points & Cash are not Promotion Eligible Qualifying Stays for purposes of this Promotion.

  • Bookings made through on-line travel agencies or other reservation sites such as booking.com or expedia.com also do not qualify under this Promotion.  .

Quick Thoughts

This IHG One Rewards promotion is very similar to one they ran at the end of last year which gave a choice between 2,000 points every two nights or 10,000 points every four nights…except there’s no choice here. There’s also a new wrinkle to this one in that it’s offering a “pre-registration” window where you can register for the promotion and start booking stays although the actual promotional period doesn’t start until 2/9/23. This undoubtedly will create at least a little confusion as I’m sure some folks will assume that stays booked once they register will count towards the promo. We’ve no idea whether IHG is actually trying to get some additional juice from the promo without having to pay additional bonus points, but it’s a bit strange to me.

The promotion as it stands isn’t terribly lucrative. We value IHG points at .63 cents each and this promotion effectively gives an extra 1,000 points per night (assuming you don’t stay an odd number of nights), or ~$6.30/night in value. That’s better than a kick in the pants for sure, but nothing that should inspire anyone to change any stays in order to take advantage of it.
