United is offering a pretty decent transfer bonus on points transferred from IHG Rewards Club. Until June 30th, when you convert 10,000 IHG points, you’ll get 3,000 United Miles. There are often opportunities to grab IHG points for around 0.5c each (including through a promotion going on right now), which would translate to 1.67c per United mile. While that’s more than our Reasonable Redemption Value for United miles, it’s certainly possible to get more value than that out of your miles. Quick Thoughts
This isn’t such a slammin’ deal that you should rush out and buy points speculatively, but it’s certainly possible to get a pretty good value out of United miles at this price. It’s a particularly good way to top off an account if you are close to an award. While United is a Chase Transfer Partner, you may prefer holding your Chase points for a more valuable use. Further, we’ve seen some opportunities to grab IHG points for as little as 0.43c each over the past year. If you loaded up during a time when points were available that cheaply, your cost per mile here would be about 1.43c each, which is probably as good as it gets in terms of buing United miles.

I did this. But the bonus portion doesn’t post at the same time. Did 10K points for 2K miles, but have to wait awhile for the 1K bonus. Just FYI.
@ Nick — Thanks for info! This is a tempting offer for us. Since I value IHG at 0.46 and UA at 1.4, it would be pretty close to an even swap (9% haircut). The deal maker for me would be that we have way too many IHG points (4 million) but not an excessive amount of UA miles (0.5 million). I think I will make a conversion…
