Frequent Miler's latest team challenge, Million Mile Madness, is happening now! Follow us as Greg, Nick, and Stephen compete to earn 1 Million SAS miles by flying 15 airlines before November 23rd. Who will complete the challenge with the most Speed, Affordability, and Style?
Nancy in our Frequent Miler Insiders group posted an absolutely incredible targeted offer she received in her email today: Open a Chase Southwest Airlines credit card and make a single purchase and earn a Southwest Companion Pass.
As you can see, this offer is targeted for California residents only. That’s a bummer for the ~294 million of us who don’t live in California, but amazing for the 39 million people who do.
Critically important, this offer is not available to those who have received a new cardmember bonus on a Chase Southwest Airlines card in the past 24 months.
Also of key importance to those who take advantage of this offer, it will provide a companion pass that is valid through December 31, 2018. Reading the terms, I don’t think it matters when you make your first purchase — the “Promotional Companion Pass” will only be valid until then.
To check and see if you are targeted, try logging into your Southwest account and check the “Promotions” tab:
Remember 5/24
Remember that the Southwest cards have historically been subject to 5/24. That is to say that if you have opened 5 or more credit cards (with any issuer, most business cards excluded), you will likely not be approved.
Bottom line
This is an amazing promotion. In my opinion, the Southwest Companion Pass is the best deal in domestic travel. Getting that pass by signing up and making a single purchase would be fantastic. See our Complete Guide to the Southwest Companion Pass for more info.
H/T: Nancy in our Frequent Miler Insiders group — thanks for the screen shots!
[…] in California). We previously wrote about this offer when it was targeted to specific members (See: INCREDIBLE: Companion Pass with a single purchase! [Targeted]), but it’s now available to all California residents. If you have a companion with whom you […]
[…] We don’t know from which airports they will service Hawaii, but we can surmise from the promotion for an easy Companion Pass for California residents that they intend to fly from […]
WN must really feel threatened by the AS/VX merger. I bet this would be a disaster if WN launched Hawaii now too with all the revenue fares they would lose with the BOGO
If I currently have a southwest card I picked more than 24 month ago will chase let me get another SouthWest chase card on top of that one? Should I cancel and reapply? I’ve slowed down the past few years so I’m still under 5/24.
If you currently have a Southwest card open, you can’t open that same exact card again. Chase has 3 different Southwest cards: the Premier, the Plus, and the Business version. Does the email give you the ability to apply for any of the 3, or is it targeted to 1 specific version?
[…] Frequent Miler reports, the airline has sent out emails to California Residents with an offer to earn a Southwest Airlines Companion Pass just by signing up for a new Rapid Rewards Credit Card account and making a purchase. Be sure to check your email to see if you’ve received this offer as it’s valid till 11/30/17. […]
I called chase today. They will be sending out mailers etc starting this week. If you live in California, it will not be hard to get this card. They will verify your address then send you companion pass. If you don’t get notification of the offer call them in a week, they’ll do I it on phone.
Did anyone receive mail with RSVP code for this offer?
If above 5/24, does going to Chase bank with this targeted email help with approval?
Crying here in SoCal. I got the email. My husband’s companion pass expires 12/2017. But I’m 16/24.
I live in LA, am under 5/24, but this offer isn’t showing for me. Last activity was a month ago.
I got the offer, too. Unfortunately, (or maybe fortunately, since I’m way over 5/24) I took advantage of the Marriot flight and hotel offer before it died, so I already have a companion pass until Dec. 2018. Hopefully, this offer will turn up again, as Southwest is finally going to establish Hawaii flights in 2018. Love Hawaii!
Does this offer still give you sign up bonus SW points? If not, I dont know if it’s still such a good deal. Maybe better to do it the old-fashioned way and open up two credit cards and get the companion pass plus the hundred 100,000 SW points to use the pass together with.
Yes, it still earns points. I didn’t include that particular screen shot in this post, but Nancy posted the entire email in Frequent Miler Insiders. It’s got a 40K point signup bonus attached.
I think the biggest strength of this offer vs opening 2 cards to earn 110K+ points is that this offer only takes up one 5/24 slot versus potentially using two slots. If you still want to open two Chase cards, the signup bonus on the Ink Business preferred gives more points (80K) that could still be transferred to Southwest if you like, but they are more flexible if you want to use them for other things.
The main strength of the 2-card approach is that you could time out the spend to get a CP for 2018 AND 2019. Definitely strengths on both sides.
I got this email…but I’m over 5/24 🙁
