Starbucks is offering a promotion through Cashstar and Visa Checkout: Buy a $10 Starbucks e-Gift card, get a $10 bonus when you pay with Visa Checkout. If you aren’t a coffee drinker, resale rates on the $20 e-Gift card are currently up to about $15, making it an instant $5 money-maker or a nice discount on your morning cup o’ joe. Additionally, if you are new to Visa Checkout, you can earn 1,000 Marriott Rewards points for signing up and using Visa Checkout within 15 days of signup. If you have not previously used Visa Checkout, today is a good day to sign up.

The Deal

  • Buy a $10 Starbucks e-gift card, get a $10 bonus if you pay with Visa Checkout
  • Direct link here

Key Terms

  • Valid through September 30th, 2017 or while supplies last
  • Limit 1 per person

Quick Thoughts

This is a super easy deal. You won’t earn any category bonuses as far as I know nor are there any shopping portals that will pay out to my knowledge as this transaction is processed by Cashstar. That said, it’s an easy win; you pay $10 for a $20 e-Gift card.

I just completed checkout this morning around 8am Eastern time and it was a breeze – I received the gift card 4 minutes after placing my order. Checking Gift Card Wiki, it looks like Starbucks e-Gift cards can easily be resold at 72-75% of face value publicly (or more depending on your resale relationships).

I double-checked the rate at CardPool and it offered $15.10 for the $20 e-Gift card, a quick flip for $5. Personally, I’ll take ten bucks in free coffee.

Marriott Rewards Bonus if you’re new to Visa Checkout

If you’re new to Visa Checkout, it is a digital wallet similar to PayPal, Venmo, Apple Pay, Android Pay, etc. You do not need to use a Visa card to pay (I used an Amex this morning). If you do not yet have a Visa Checkout account, Marriott is offering 500 points for singing up for a Visa Checkout account and 500 points for using it anywhere Visa Checkout is accepted within 15 days of creating a Visa Checkout account. As I have long had a Visa Checkout account, I have not tested this one out, but based on the terms it should work for an easy 1,000 Marriott Rewards points for those who are new.

The Deal

  • Get 500 bonus points for creating a Visa Checkout account and 500 bonus points for using it anywhere Visa Checkout is accepted within 15 days of creating an account
  • Direct link here

Full Terms from Marriott site:

To qualify for the “Marriott Visa Checkout Marketing Promotion” (the “Promotion”) and earn 500 Marriott Rewards® bonus points, a Marriott Rewards member must enroll in Visa Checkout by creating a Visa Checkout account at between July 24 and September 24 while supplies last (the “Promotion Period”). If a customer does not have a Marriott Rewards account at the time of enrollment he/she must create an account to be eligible for this Promotion. A Visa Checkout account and a Marriott Rewards member account are free to create. Email address on Visa Checkout account must match email address associated with Marriott Rewards member account.

To receive the additional 500 Marriott Rewards® bonus points, a Marriott Rewards member who enrolled in Visa Checkout during the Promotion period must use their new Visa Checkout account anywhere Visa Checkout is accepted within fifteen (15) days of opening a new Visa Checkout account. Marriott Rewards members who enrolled in Visa Checkout prior to the Promotion Period are not eligible for this Promotion.

This Promotion is available to Marriott Rewards members who are residents of the U.S. and whose Marriott Rewards accounts are in good standing. 1,000 points maximum reward per Visa Checkout and Marriott Rewards account. One enrollment per person. Not valid toward previous enrollments in Visa Checkout. Bonus award points cannot be processed if email address on Visa Checkout account does not match email address associated with Marriott Rewards member account. Allow 6 to 8 weeks from the end of the Promotion Period for delivery of the bonus points award. Marriott Rewards members who have elected in their account profile to earn miles are not eligible for the Promotion.

Visa and Marriott may cancel or suspend this offer and any transaction associated with the cardholder’s name, email address or account and close any associated Visa Checkout accounts at any time with immediate effect and without written notice, if Visa or Marriott determines that a cardholder has engaged in fraudulent activity or breached the terms and conditions. This Promotion and its terms and conditions are subject to cancellation or change without notice. Void where prohibited by law. All Marriott Rewards program terms and conditions apply. See for full details.

Bottom line

Both deals are easy wins — earn some free money, free coffee, and maybe free points while supplies last. According to Doctor of Credit, multiple Visa Checkout accounts have worked in the past, but not the same Stacbucks account, so keep that in mind.
