Update 12/22/23: It looks like Amex has extended the expiry on this offer to 12/31/23 for some folks. I had already used it and don’t see it in my account, but there are numerous DP’s of extensions for those who hadn’t. (h/t: DOC)
~~~
In recent weeks we’ve seen a couple of new Marriott Amex Offers, one giving $200 back when spending $500 at their luxury brands and another giving 20% back on up to $250 spend. We now have a third Marriott Amex Offer floating around for some cardholders and there are two versions of it.
The Deal
- There are two versions of a new Marriott Amex Offer available:
- Spend $250 & get $75 back
- Spend $250 & get $100 back
Key Terms
- Expires December 31, 2023.
- Offer valid only on room rate and room charges at participating Marriott Bonvoy properties in the U.S. and U.S. territories, the Caribbean, Canada and Mexico.
- Reservations must be made online at Marriott.com, via the Marriott Bonvoy App or by calling 1-888-236-2427.
- Excludes The Ritz-Carlton, St. Regis, EDITION, The Luxury Collection, W Hotels, JW Marriott, Marriott Vacation Club, Design Hotels, Protea Hotels by Marriott, Marriott Executive Apartments, Homes & Villas by Marriott Bonvoy, and Vistana.
- Excludes gift card purchases.
- Not valid for online retail purchases, hotel amenities, or purchases of Marriott Bonvoy points.
- Qualifying purchase means a purchase at a participating Marriott Bonvoy property made during the offer period with your enrolled American Express Card and which is in an amount totaling at least $250 USD as posted to your account, following conversion from a foreign currency, if applicable, in accordance with your Cardmember Agreement.
- Offer not valid for lodging stays that are paid for before the promotion start date or after the promotion end date.
Quick Thoughts
Both me and my wife were targeted for the version of this offer giving a $75 statement credit which, helpfully, was on our Marriott credit cards (among others) and so we’ll be able to also earn 6x Marriott Bonvoy points if using this offer. There is an even better version giving $100 back, so hopefully you’re lucky enough to get that version.
As always with these Amex Offers, if you can find a property that sells Marriott gift cards at their front desk, that’s a good way to lock in the savings for a future stay. Just make sure that they’d be processing a physical gift card rather than simply ordering you a Marriott eGift card from their website as that doesn’t trigger the statement credit.
Does it work for the “Prepay and Save” purchase?
My normal trip to a nearby Marriott property for an at-the-counter plastic gift card purchase (yes, I found one) for $250 is not working this time. The previous two times I got the confirmation email almost immediately. It’s been four days so far, $250 has posted, and nothing.
I *finally* got the email – days later.
“Both me and my wife…”
My wife and I. Just sayin’
FYI – I added these Marriott offers to various household accounts soon after they came out a few months ago. Within the past few weeks, the expiration dates on the unused offers have magically changed from December 15 to December 31.
Same for the “luxury” Amex offers that require $500 spend.
So if I was to book a marriott hotel for January with this would it post or does the stay have to be within the dates?
If I stay during Dec12-15, will I qualify for this offer? The charge may not post until it expires
That should work. When you get to the hotel, you could ask them to make sure $250 is charged immediately to play safe, but if you’re checking out on the 15th you should be OK.
I was just told by an AMEX rep that Sheraton was NOT eligible for this offer. That doesn’t sound right given the very specific list of excluded luxury brands. Does anyone have confirmation that brands other than “Marriott” qualify?
That rep is definitely wrong. They probably have no idea about Marriott’s brands and so probably think this offer is only valid on Marriott specifically and don’t even know that Marriott owns Sheraton.
Yup. They are clueless. Tried to use a Marriott giftcard at Sheraton, front desk tried and failed. Then said Sheraton system does not accept Marriott GC. Ask for manager, also clueless. They finally call Bonvoy customer service and was able to apply the Marriott GC.
Do you still get the statement credit if the bill is just over $250 but includes taxes? Do taxes count?
Yes, taxes and other room charges count.
There is another version spend $500 get $100 not the same as the one for luxury hotel like jw marriott, w hotel, ritz carlton.
This is the one I have.
I got 20% back up to $50 on our Blue Business Plus cards, but nothing else. I did not try adding a bunch to get below 100 on all of them, so maybe there is a hidden one somewhere.
I’ve got a bunch of 10% offers on various Chase cards but so far nothing on my AMEX cards.
