There is a new targeted Marriott Amex Offer that appeared today on some Marriott Bonvoy Business credit cards. The offer gives those targeted 5000 bonus Marriott Bonvoy points when spending $2000+ on their business card by 4/30/25. It also states that the cardholder must enroll by 1/31/25 in order to qualify.

Quick Thoughts

This is an interesting departure from the standard Marriott Amex offers which give a statement credit for reaching a given level of spend at Marriott properties. This one is limited to Bonvoy Business cards only and is effectively a 2.5x spending bonus on $2000 in total purchases.

The Bonvoy Business card has the following earning rates:

  • 6x at Marriott properties (8.5x with Amex Offer)
  • 4x on gas, dining, shipping and wireless phone service (6.5x with Amex Offer)
  • 2x everywhere else (4.5x with Amex Offer)

The normal rates don’t really warrant putting non-brand spend on the card, but this Amex Offer could make it appealing.

Our recently updated Marriott Bonvoy Reasonable Redemption Values (RRV’s) have Bonvoy points pegged at 0.7 cents each. Using that, the Amex Offer brings the return on Marriott spend to ~6% and the other bonused categories to ~4.5%. These are all decent rates, especially if you have spend at Marriott properties before April.

If it were me, I would most likely use the offer for Marriott spend and then buy a few gift cards from gas stations to make up the difference to $2K. That said, for some folks, it might be worth using it towards organic spend as well, so long as the total spend is kept to as close to $2000 as possible.

I got a similar offer, but mine is much more aggressive:

15,000 points after $7,000 in spend. Up to 2x. Same end date: 4/30/2025.

If I can’t hit any of the bonus categories, if I spend $7,000:

15,000 bonus points
14,000 spend points (2 x $7,000)
———–
29,000 points

29,000 x 0.007 cents per point = $203

$203 / $7,000 = 2.9%.

I think I’d rather put money on my Amex Biz Blue at 2 points per dollar. Since I can get at least $0.02 per Amex point, that’s 4%.

The 5k for $2k would be more tempting, but alas not in my fate.
