Several stores have promotions this week to save on fees when purchasing Mastercard gift cards, helping you save on activation fees while picking up some spend at US supermarkets.
Safeway / Vons / Randall’s / Albertsons
Check your Just4U login for the following coupons:
- $15 off when you buy two $100 Mastercard gift cards.
- $10 off when you buy two $50 Mastercard gift cards
Key Terms:
- Valid until 12/15/18
- Not valid on variable-load cards
Note that I did not see these offers in my Just4U account, but others have found them. It may be targeted by region? My Safeway account is registered in Seattle for what that’s worth. (H/T: Doctor of Credit).
Publix
Clip this online coupon good for:
- $10 off $100 or more in Mastercard Gift Cards
Key Terms:
- Valid until 12/15/18
Bottom line
The fact that Safeway excludes variable-load cards is a bummer, but picking up two $100 cards would be a $1 money maker while earning some easy rewards. I don’t see a similar restriction on the Publix offer, so I imagine you could buy a variable-load card to get some more rewards mileage out of it. That said, keep in mind that Mastercard gift cards can be more difficult to liquidate, so go in with a plan in mind.
Also keep in mind that we posted here yesterday that there is a Meijer deal on Mastercard gift cards at the moment as well (See: Meijer mPerks: Save $10 On $150+ Mastercard Gift Card (Must Load Coupon).

[…] Mastercard Gift Card deals at Safeway (& affiliates) and Publix (Expires 12/15/18) […]
This also worked at Tom Thumb on Visa cards.
$5.95 each on the $100s so it is actually a $3.10 money make plus points since it is $15 back from them.
Buy the MCGC first, then use them right away to buy the VGC if you wouldn’t otherwise buy the MCGC, this saves you more on the VGC.
Publix doesn’t carry variable loads. $200 max value for a MCGC
I saw it on my Albertson’s app (Safeway affiliate in CA).
