Quick Thoughts
While not quite as good as the now-expired 60K offer on the Barclaycard Aviator Red (since that offer only required a single purchase and payment of the annual fee), this offer still beats the “standard” 30K-mile offer. Additionally, Doctor of Credit reports that some people continue to have success matching to a 75,000 point offer via secure message. See more about that in their post. Keep in mind that Citi will not give you a signup bonus if you have opened or closed a Citi AAdvantage account in the past 24 months.
While AA miles have gotten a bad rap in recent years, I’ve anecdotally been seeing more domestic saver availability over the past few months. Furthermore, partner awards for international business and first class tend to yield the best value of American Airlines miles. View from the Wing recently reported on wide open business class availability from New York to Asia on Cathay Pacific — which would cost 70,000 American airlines miles. This offer would get you most of the way to a one-way business class seat to Asia — or more than enough if you’re able to get matched to 75K.

Thanks for the heads up. My original offer was 65,000 miles for $4k spent in 4 months. AA gave me an extra 10,000 miles on top of this when I asked them to match their offer to 75,000 miles via secure message. I had only received the card about two days before I asked for the extra miles.
Thanks for this awesome post! I just got the Citi AA credit card and thanks to your tip I got the 15K bonus after I secure messaged them! Appreciate it.
Nick, I saw the 75,000 mile offer being available as well over at DOC today, as well. I applied for the Aadvantage Business platinum last month with the 60,000 signup bonus, and I sent a SM through my Citi account today asking about the 75,000 offer (not even sure if that offer actually exists for the business card?!?) and was approved for the extra 15,000 within an hour! They didn’t even require any higher spending amount(other than the $3000 within first 3 months from my original offer), just told me the extra 15,000 would be automatically added to my account. As another data point, I sent another SM trying to get the extra 15K miles from a personal Aadvantage platinum card I had applied for last summer, but I was turned down. I figured as much, but it didn’t hurt to try!
