Quick Thoughts
This promotion has the potential to be quite rewarding, especially if you’ll be staying at Hyatt Place or Hyatt House properties. Those brands tend to have lower room rates than Hyatt’s other brands, so earning 1,500 bonus points per night at those is excellent.
The biggest downside to this promotion is that you’ll only start earning bonus points on your second stay. That’s an annoying feature which has been used by Marriott in the past for some of their MegaBonus promotions. If your first stay is due to be longer, it might be worth booking a one night award stay at a category 1 property. Although you’ll be spending 5,000 points, it’ll be worth it if you’d earn more than that in bonus points from your longer stay. You can find a list of Hyatt’s category 1 properties here, but don’t forget that 1/3 of their properties will be changing categories on March 18, so that list will change in a few weeks.
That second stay requirement is annoying, but a great feature of this promotion is that you’ll earn the bonus points even on award stays. That makes stays at category 1 Hyatt Place and Hyatt House properties excellent value as they’ll have a net cost of only 3,500 points per night. We’ll be spending 5-6 weeks in Kentucky during April/May and they’ll have three category 1 properties by that stage. There’s therefore a very good chance that this promotion will influence where we stay as it’ll be hard to pass up award stays for only 3,500 points per night.
How about you? Will this influence your booking behavior or will it just be a nice bonus to have if you happen to end up at any of Hyatt’s brands two or more times before May 15?

I just booked a 9 night stay at a Hyatt House using reward points. I also confirmed that my registration for this promotion was confirmed.
When I just received the email confirmation, I noticed this in the message:
Type of Rate: REDEEM POINTS
Rate Information: AGENT NOTES: Rate is eligible to earn tier credit only; not points.
I’ve always earned points even on reward stays and now was hoping to earn even more with this promotion.
Have any of you seen this before? Does it negate the other terms? ugh.
I think those are probably just the regular terms, as award stays don’t earn base points. So long as you’re registered for the promotion, you should still earn the bonus points so long as you have another stay before this 9 night one.
Another crazy question perhaps – but the second/third/fourth stays, whatever – if one had a need to stay in one place for awhile, since this promotion is not based on counting the number of stays, but rather awarding points based on number of nights. then one long stay would be lucrative. I have a need for a month long stay this spring and had not yet decided which brand to give my business too – this looks like perhaps a good option. Am I missing anything here?
Nope, so long as it’s not your first stay then you’re good. One or two chains restrict the length of stay for which you can earn points to 28 or 30 days (I think IHG has a rule like that), but I just checked the World of Hyatt terms and couldn’t find anything like that in there.
Maybe I’m getting hung up on terminology, but can the first eligible stay be paid for using award points? I assume I would have to make it a different property in order to distinguish it as a separate stay in the case of back to back hotel night plans.
Yes, the first stay can be on points. Like you said, you’d need to make it a different property if it was going to be the night before another stay.
5-6 weeks in KY? Unless I was incarcerated in KY I’d try to get out of staying there.
I’m actually looking forward to it – all the whiskey!
Thanks. I assumed that would be the case. It’s too bad, as it would have made for an easy first stay.
