Quick Thoughts

This promotion has the potential to be quite rewarding, especially if you’ll be staying at Hyatt Place or Hyatt House properties. Those brands tend to have lower room rates than Hyatt’s other brands, so earning 1,500 bonus points per night at those is excellent.

The biggest downside to this promotion is that you’ll only start earning bonus points on your second stay. That’s an annoying feature which has been used by Marriott in the past for some of their MegaBonus promotions. If your first stay is due to be longer, it might be worth booking a one night award stay at a category 1 property. Although you’ll be spending 5,000 points, it’ll be worth it if you’d earn more than that in bonus points from your longer stay. You can find a list of Hyatt’s category 1 properties here, but don’t forget that 1/3 of their properties will be changing categories on March 18, so that list will change in a few weeks.

That second stay requirement is annoying, but a great feature of this promotion is that you’ll earn the bonus points even on award stays. That makes stays at category 1 Hyatt Place and Hyatt House properties excellent value as they’ll have a net cost of only 3,500 points per night. We’ll be spending 5-6 weeks in Kentucky during April/May and they’ll have three category 1 properties by that stage. There’s therefore a very good chance that this promotion will influence where we stay as it’ll be hard to pass up award stays for only 3,500 points per night.

How about you? Will this influence your booking behavior or will it just be a nice bonus to have if you happen to end up at any of Hyatt’s brands two or more times before May 15?
