Last year, a new lounge access benefit was added to the Amex Platinum cards (including both the personal and Business Platinum cards): lounge access to some Lufthansa lounges at Munich airport. That benefit has now been expanded to a number of lounges at Frankfurt airport.
Specifically, when flying with Lufthansa, Swiss, or Austrian, Platinum cardholders will now have complimentary access to:
- Lufthansa Business Lounges (regardless of class of service) and Lufthansa Senator Lounges (when flying business class) in the Satellite area of T2 in Munich Airport, and T1 Concourse B in Frankfurt Airport
Additionally, Centurion cardholders will get access to the First Class, Senator, and Business Class lounges in both areas.
I used the Lufthansa Business Class lounge in Munich last year, and it was a good place to spend a couple of hours, grab a bite to eat, and get some work done.
Greg has been to one of the the Senator loungse in Frankfurt, and that looks like a good place to hang out between flights as well.
Overall, it’s great to see lounge access expand. It would be even better to see this expand to Lufthansa lounges in other cities around the world. At the moment, access to these lounges is available through May 31, 2019.

What if you’re flying Singapore airlines on business? Can you enter the senator with the Platinum card?
No. You have to be flying Lufthansa, Austrian, or Swiss to get the Platinum Card benefit. You would just get access to the business class lounge because you’re flying Star Alliance business class.
Do you know if you can bring a guest in like you can with centurion lounges?
Officially, no – but they say that some lounges will allow a guest. YMMV.
So with a basic economy Lufthansa ticket I could get into the Lufthansa First Class lounge and get a First Class duck if I have an AMEX Platinum? If true I might have to plan a trip to FRA or MUC.
No. You’d need a Centurion card to get into the First Class Lounge (annual fee on that card is like $2500 plus a $7500 initiation fee). I tried not to emphasize that benefit as I imagine many more readers have a Platinum card rather than a Centurion card. If you have an Amex Platinum, you’ll get into the Business Class lounge with a basic economy ticket. You would need a business class ticket to get into the Senator lounge.
