Office Depot and OfficeMax have returned with another opportunity to get some profitable 5x spend in by offering a $15 instant discount when buying $300+ Mastercard gift cards.
The Deal
- Buy $300+ Mastercard gift cards at Office Depot/OfficeMax & get $15 instant discount.
Key Terms
- Expires December 12, 2020.
Quick Thoughts
Staples is offering fee-free Visa gift cards this week, but this Office Depot/OfficeMax deal is a little better if you don’t mind buying Mastercard gift cards rather than Visa as it’s a profitable deal rather than break-even.
Buying two $200 cards works out best points-wise, especially if you have a Chase Ink Plus or Ink Cash card as they both earn 5x. You’ll therefore earn 1,995 Ultimate Rewards for each two $200 Mastercard gift cards you buy, making $1.10 profit each time too.
I think these cards are issued by MetaBank which have had liquidation issues at Walmart and some other stores. It’s still possible to use them at some stores, but be aware you could end up having problems.
h/t Jim
A problem I have experienced is that MasterCard gift cards will often be recognized as credit cards when trying to liquidate on some sites (paying tuition, or paying taxes). Not sure what that’s about. does not happen w Visas
is the GC purchasable online since there is no link?
No, it’s an in-store only deal.
am I missing something or is there no link? The only links seem to be to the Staples post and Metabank issues.
nm. Realized it wasn’t online like the previous deals.
None of the staples in 50 miles radius near me have $200 visa gift card in stock. They have other $xx visa gift cards in stock.
Those 200 Visa Metabanks aren’t working for MOs at Walmart or Kroger. Be aware.
thx Stephen, glad that I didn’t drive 50 miles rt to staples for the vgc
