Update: Based on a couple of comments below, it sounds like some stores and/or regions might not be participating in this deal.
~
Office Depot and OfficeMax have returned with their semi-frequent deal by offering a $15 instant discount when buying $300 or more of Visa gift cards.
The Deal
- Buy $300+ Visa gift cards at Office Depot/OfficeMax & save $15 instantly.
Key Terms
- Expires October 24, 2020.
- Limit 1 per customer.
Quick Thoughts
Even though you only need to spend $300 for this offer, the better option points-wise is to buy $400 worth of Visa gift cards. You pay an extra dollar in activation fees, but the points you earn will more than offset that so long as you pay with a card that earns points worth more than 1cpp.
The best option of all is if you have a Chase Ink Plus or Ink Cash card seeing as they earn 5x at office supply stores. Buying two $200 Visa gift cards will earn you 1,995 Ultimate Rewards points while also making a profit of $1.10.
Past Deals
- September 27 – October 3, 2020.

There is a comment from a reader on DOC that this deal is also online.
Yep, just posted about that – thanks!
man, just finished the staples vgc deal yday… now this along with safeway’s; can’t catch a breather
I went to office max after reading the article and the discount didn’t show. I am not sure where did you see this deal?
At an OfficeMax in Roanoke, VA. The discount only shows up when you’re ready to actually pay – it initially rings up at full price, but then deducts $7.50 from each card.
Yes I know. I selected printed receipt. I was about to pay but it didn’t show the discount.
That’s strange then. I don’t remember this deal ever being regional in the past.
I just came back from an OMax in the Northwest and got no discount at all. This may be spotty.
No discount showed up at my local ODepot in CA, Orange County too. Sad.
I had the same happen to me. office m/d needed to reboot each register.
To be clear: are you saying, you bought $300+ in VGCs at OD, no discount. Then the rebooted the register, you bought again, and after they rebooted, you got the discount?
after they rebooted, I got the discount?
I am here in Roanoke and confirmed this did work today.
[…] Hat tip to @noonradar and FM […]
Activation fees? When I bought my $300 worth last week I paid $285. There wasn’t any activation offsetting it. Just a straight $15 off.
Was that the online offer? Last week’s in-store offer was on Mastercard gift cards and I was charged the activation fees.
This is what my e-mail said:
Card Value:
$300
Shipping:
Free
Discount(Promotion):
-$15
TOTAL: $285
Sorry.. yes… the online offer
Yep, that’s a different type of offer. For some reason they don’t charge an activation fee when running VGC promotions online, but they do get charged in-store for these types of offers.
Ahhh. gotcha. I knew about the instore stuff. I was REALLY surprised on my checkout that they didn’t charge for the activation fee.
If you’re MSing the cards, the everywhere cards are much cheaper ($2/card). Don’t forget 2% on Dosh
I wish the triple dip would come back
Can’t find the everywhere cards on GCM anymore, did they pull them?
