Frequent Miler's latest team challenge, Million Mile Madness, is almost done! The last two weeks Greg, Nick, and Stephen competed to earn 1 Million SAS miles by flying 15 airlines. But who completed the challenge with the most Speed, Affordability, and Style?
Last night, Gary Leff at View from the Wing reported on great availability on Qatar’s QSuites between Los Angeles and Doha. Strong availability exists for next year (they are scheduled to begin flying QSuites-equipped planes on February 2nd). Some dates even have availability for 4 passengers, which would be a fun way to fly, whether your final destination is Doha or elsewhere in the region.
The Deal
- Excellent award availability in business class on Qatar QSuites between Los Angeles and Doha for many dates in 2019 (Feb 2 onward)
Quick Thoughts
You can easily search award availability using the American Airlines website – just filter your results to nonstop flights (see the drop-down on the left next to “number of stops”) to see the dates business class is available on Qatar. Here’s a look at 2 seats next March.
Availability is decent through the end of the schedule (better some months than others).
American Airlines charges 70K miles on this route, and that includes for those connecting onward throughout the Middle East. You can also use Doha as a connecting point to continue on to Africa for 75K miles total (though your max layover in Doha is 24 hours).
Those connecting can take advantage of the Qatar business class lounge in Doha, which was hands down the nicest lounge I’ve ever experienced when I passed through in 2015.
Overall, it’s nice to see some increases in award availability as of late (also see our earlier post about Japan Airlines availability to/from Seattle).

[…] Qatar QSuite availability from LAX to Doha […]
I’m sorry, but 15 hours is just too long in a plane for a connection….unless my suite mate is a Bond girl.
My flight DOH-DFW in March 2019 was also switched to QSuites yesterday. All middle seats were blocked by Qatar, AA agent was only able to select window seats. Had to tweet Qatar and got E&F seats selected via DM.
