Rakuten: 7,500 / $75 Membership Rewards bonus for Amex cardholders

If you haven’t yet used the shopping portal Rakuten, now’s the time to try it.

Rakuten is offering a promotion where American Express cardholders can receive 7,500 Membership Rewards points (or $75) when they sign up, link a Membership Rewards-earning card to the portal, and spend at least $25 through the portal.

This is the best signup bonus that I can remember Rakuten offering, and spending $25 should be very easy to do. Take advantage if you can.

Quick Thoughts

This an incredible bonus, the best that I’ve ever seen offered by Rakuten.

When you sign up for Rakuten, your account preference is normally set to earn cash back by default, but you can switch your earning preference to Membership Rewards points (or keep it as cash back if that’s what you’d prefer). In this case, my assumption is that the default setting will be to earn Membership Rewards, so double check that if you’d prefer cashback. We value 7,500 Membership Rewards points as being worth ~$115, so that would be our choice if we had one.

This offer ends on May 12th, so make sure to get on it if you have an Amex card and aren’t yet on Rakuten.
