American Express has reduced the redemption cost of Delta gift cards for some cardholders so that they now only cost 1 cent per point.

This appears to be a targeted promotion as neither my wife nor I have this offer available on our Membership Rewards-earning cards, but Greg has access to this reduced pricing.
Even with this promotion, it’s still not a great deal. You’d be redeeming Membership Rewards on a 1cpp basis, whereas the Frequent Miler Reasonable Redemption Value is 1.82. That’s giving up a huge amount of value.
In theory, the redemption could work out a little better than 1cpp seeing as you’d earn Delta SkyMiles when redeeming the gift cards. Still, there’s a good chance that you could use fewer Membership Rewards by transferring them to your SkyMiles account if there’s award availability on the flight you need.
If you have a Delta credit card, you can already use their Pay With Miles feature that allows you to redeem SkyMiles on a 1cpp basis.

Too bad the title isn’t “Redeem DL miles for AMEX gift cards for 1 cpp”. I would cash out all of my DL miles….
