Quick Thoughts
This offer appears to be targeted in a couple of ways. First, it seems like it’s only available for cardholders, but not all cardholders are targeted; at the time of publishing this, I’ve received an email but my wife hasn’t, despite both of us each having two or more Marriott credit cards. Something worth noting is that I have both personal and business Marriott cards, whereas my wife only has business Marriott cards, so perhaps only personal cardholders are targeted.
The other element of targeting is the discount level. I received an offer giving 15% off, but at least one person in the Frequent Miler Insiders Facebook group was lucky enough to be targeted for a 20% discount which is awesome.
Although the purchase is processed via a third party site, it is set up in a way that ensures you’ll earn bonus Marriott points on the purchase, so that should be 6x bonus points if paying with a Marriott credit card. Earning up to 5,100 bonus points (taking into account the discount) while also saving 15% or 20% is a great deal if you anticipate having any paid Marriott stays in the future, or stays where you’ll have room charges like dining or spa treatments.
Note that targeted cardholders are receiving a unique code to enter when checking out in order to obtain the discount, so don’t forget to enter that.

Bought a gift card because of the discount and now I was just told by the St Regis I can only use it to book reservations for someone else (not me) which apparently is wrong on two levels: (a) you use it to pay at check out not to make bookings, and (b) if your name is on it you can use it even if you paid for it yourself. Sheesh! Not that great of a deal actually
Ok so someone else at the hotel was relatively quickly able to apply the e gift card at check out. The issue is that hotel staff need to (a) log into a different system to apply the credit, (b) check to make sure the remaining balance on the card is sufficient and (c) confirm currency conversion (if applicable). Everything worked out fine and at the normal exchange rate similar to credit card. Just saved $100.
does anyone have a 20% off code they aren’t going to use?
Can we use the gift card in all Marriott hotels? In the past, some hotels don’t allow me to use gift card to checkout
Has anyone had as much trouble as i am just trying to buy these? I keep getting a “Payment Failed” Notification. Marriott gift cards claims chase is declining them, Chase claims all of them were authorized but the transaction never completed. I Tried multiple devices to purchase from with no luck. Marriott can offer no support what so ever other then blaming chase.
I had the same issue today when trying to pay with my two Chase Marriott cards. Ended up paying with my Amex Marriott card instead and that went through ok.
I have a personal and business card and didn’t get the offer.
Does the targeted email come from @marriott.com? Or, what is the subject of it? Thanks.
It came from Marriott. The subject line for my email was ‘Ends April 18: Card Members Save 15% on eGiftCards’
“Earning up to 6,000 bonus points while also saving 15% or 20% is a great deal…” Given that the maximum you can spend on this deal is $850, if you purchase the max of $1000 in GC and have the 15% discount, you can only earn up to 5,100 points on a Bonvoy card.
That’s a great point – thanks. I’ll get the post updated.
I save 30-40% with Amex offers by buying gift cards at the front desk.
I have used them in Germany and Japan with no issue at all. Are these different than the Marriott GCs you can buy at Marriott, Courtyard, etc? Those are the ones I have used internationally and the currency conversion was the official forex rate.
WARNING: While you can use these cards at any Marriott property, DO NOT use them outside the US. The property will use its own currency conversion rate, which will be incredibly disadvantageous. The “spread” will likely consume your discount. If you complain about the spread, HQ will say it is a pricing issue and defer to the property. Buyer beware.
I only have the business card and got the 15% offer.
Would this purchase be eligible for reimbursement with the Marriott Bold card?
These gift cards are very difficult to use. Very few hotels seem to know how to proccess them.
I purchased a $500 giftcard in 2023. I have attempted to use it 5 times, and only 1 hotel has done so successfully (for ~$250, and so i still have ~$250 left that I struggle to use). Each time, I have to talk with the front of hotel staff (and none of them know how to do it), then they have to talk with their manager, who will then typically try to contact some Marriott corporate tech support type of department, and then say that they will have to process it later once they figure out how. Only one has successfully charged the eGiftcard, and it takes me like ~20 extra minutes each time I try to use it.
I would likely only consider purchasing this again if I had a long stay planned, both so that I could use up the gift card in one transaction, and so that I would have multiple days to be able to communicate with the hotel staff as they would go through their trial-and-error process of eventually being able to charge the eGiftcard.
Totally agree…. I’ve had the same experience. Marriott’s ancient property management software makes it difficult to process these gift cards.
On the other hand I’m 5/5 when I involve the management.
