There are a couple of good coffee deals brewing this morning — including 18% off on Starbucks Gift Cards at Giftme and free coffee at Wawa (a regional convenience store chain).
Deal 1 – Starbucks
- Flash sale at Giftme: Starbucks cards are 18% off
Key Terms
- GiftMe guarantees cards for 7 days after purchase.
- Limited-time deal (I believe this ends tonight)
- GiftMe only sells cards through their Android and iOS mobile apps. You can find download links on their website.
- After downloading the app and adding a payment method, it can take up to 24 hours for that payment method to be validated (the process includes sending a picture of the front and back of your credit card through the app)
- Once your payment method has been verified, gift card purchases should be isntant
Quick Thoughts
I haven’t personally purchased from Giftme before, but 18% is a nice savings on Starbucks cards. Be aware that Giftme only guarantees these cards for 7 days, so I wouldn’t buy more than I plan to use in that time, Also note that the terms state that Starbucks gift cards from the Giftme app should not be transferred onto a personal Starbucks account.

Nick, thanks so much for your detailed response. Your comparison to a punch card was super helpful. And believe me, I am all about saving a few bucks, I just wanted to make sure I wasn’t missing anything. 🙂
[…] Hat tip to Frequent Miler […]
I understand not wanting to buy more Starbucks value than you can use in a week, but if you load the gift card to your Starbucks account, doesn’t the value then live into perpetuity? 🙂
I think the issue is if Starbucks flags the original gift card as purchased fraudulently (ie – stolen CC, chargeback) and you moved the balance to your main account, your main account can get shut down.
Ryan, thanks for the info. This makes sense.
But then I don’t understand the point of this promotion; how much coffee can a person drink in a week? Save $3.60 on a $20 gift card? What am I missing?
The point would just be to save a few bucks — you’ve got the idea. Whether or not that is worthwhile to you will totally depend. We report deals big and small :-).
Plenty of people probably spend $5 a day at Starbucks. Over 7 days, that’s $35. If you were to buy a $35 card, it would be $28.70. So, with this deal, you’re saving $6.30. In other words, more than 1 of your 7 days is free. Think of it as Starbucks giving you a punch card: buy coffee for 6 days, get a day free. And a 25% discount on day 6 I guess :-).
It’s not the largest savings ever, but it beats paying $29 for $30 in gift cards at Sam’s Club — if you go to Starbucks regularly. I suggest using them within 7 days because that’s the guarantee — you could end up with a $0 balance if you hold it longer. I don’t imagine you’re going to have a $0 balance on day 8 — but I wouldn’t buy these planning to hold them for 3 months without understanding that they might get zereoed out. Everyone has his/her own risk tolerance — and second-hand gift cards have some inherent risk. The next-best second-hand gift card discount right now is about 10% off.
