Quick Thoughts

This FALLTRAVEL promo code has the potential to provide some great deals, especially on cheaper flights. Be aware that the minimum fare per segment has to be $50+ before taxes and fees, otherwise you might be confused by some of the results depending on the route/dates you’re looking at.

For example, Boston to Albany has some flights costing $59 before the use of the promo code:

When adding the promo code, that $59 fare price doesn’t drop by $25, whereas the $79 and $84 flights do reduce in price.

The reason behind that discrepancy is the base fare. Although the first flight listed above costs a total of $59, the base fare is only $40.93, with $17.97 in taxes and fees making up the rest of that price.

If that particularly route/time would be your best option, don’t ignore it despite the fact that the other options are slightly cheaper. That’s because depending on the fare type you book, you might still get to take advantage of the $25 savings from the FALLTRAVEL promo code.

Using this same example, the $59 fare is for Blue Basic. If you were interesting in a Blue or Blue Extra fare type in order to get a free carry-on, seat selection, etc., the $25 discount does get applied to those fares which makes them only slightly more expensive than the Blue Basic fares.

Something that’s a bit of a shame with how this promo works is that the promo code doesn’t work on award flights. When Southwest runs sales such as these, a promo code that gives a discount on paid flights gives a discount on award flights too due to the fact that the value of Rapid Rewards flights is tied to the cash cost of flights.

JetBlue’s TrueBlue program ordinarily works in a similar way to Southwest in that the value of TrueBlue points is tied to the cost of airfare. However, using the promo code doesn’t provide a discount on the number of TrueBlue points required for these flights, so paying cash will work out to be better value.

Although this offer is valid on flights from September 6-November 15, you have to book by tomorrow night (July 26) in order to take advantage of it.
