Amex is out with a new targeted Amex Offer for Silvercar car rental: Spend $500, Get $100 Back.
The Deal
Spend $500 or more with Silvercar, in one or more transactions, and get $100 back. Expires 10/6/21.
Quick Thoughts
With many car rental companies struggling to provide enough rental cars for the surge in demand domestically, Silvercar might be a good alternative. It’s not cheap, but it’s much better than arriving at a car rental shop and finding that they are sold out of cars (assuming that doesn’t happen with Silvercar — I don’t know this to be the case one way or the other).
Yeah, just double-checked and they don’t deliver cars to airports anymore. There’s a $50 fee to deliver a car to you elsewhere (hotel, for example) and pick it up later. So if you’re willing to Uber/Lyft to and from your hotel, this might be viable for a traveler. However, they have no locations anywhere in LA, for example. In SoCal they have locations in Orange County and Ontario.
After reading about the crazy rental car prices lately, I thought about Silvercar, which I have used at LAX a lot in the past, and wondered if its prices were similarly inflated. I looked at my Silvercar app and discovered they no longer have any airport locations! All of the pickup locations are now at Audi dealers. Maybe this is old news, but I was shocked. And I don’t see how those locations would work for travelers arriving at airports.
